The Communications Director will lead Candeo Creative’s communication team in producing thoughtful and effective messages through various platforms and tactics. He/she will manage the internal/ public communications strategy for clients. The communications director will help improve and execute processes for creative copywriting, public relations efforts, digital brand management practices and content creation. He/she will oversee the quality and effectiveness of all marketing, advertising and PR messages that the agency produces. The Communications Director will work in our communications department and report directly to the president of Candeo Creative.

To ensure that we are meeting the needs of our clients, the communications director will work hand-in-hand with the creative director, art director, project managers and account managers to seek and implement the best solutions for our clients. This position is a perfect fit for you if you are able to:

  • Monitor discussions, resource postings, and trends within the community; identify and report usage trends and advise on potential opportunities; alert and work with the communications team to resolve issues as they arise 
  • Monitor and measure community engagement success (i.e., number of power users, number of discussions, etc.); report this data to the leadership; identify and report on community trends to internal teams 
  • Generate and promote ideas aimed at gaining support for client goals and policies from its target audiences 
  • Serve as an advocate for client businesses; build and maintain positive relationships with the public 
  • Handle organizational functions such as media, community, consumer, and governmental relations; interest-group representation; conflict mediation; or employee and investor relations for designated accounts and/or the agency 
  • Understand the attitudes and concerns of consumers, employees, and various other groups; keep leadership aware of public attitudes and concerns of all groups and organizations with which the client must deal 
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with representatives of community, consumer, employee, and public interest groups and with representatives from print, broadcast and web journalism 
  • Direct the creation and implementation of all public relations campaigns, programs and publicity activities for the agency and its clients 
  • Direct the writing of all publicity stories; when required, the communications director will write stories 
  • Review and/or edit all PR releases, creative copywriting, social media content, etc. to be distributed by the agency 
  • Develop PR strategies, such as determining when and where all PR releases will be sent for placement
  • Set, manage and report on PR efforts Work with account service personnel and assigned account staff to develop publicity and digital content ideas for clients one month prior to the date of publication 
  • Meet once a month, or as needed, with leadership to update them on department status and make any changes deemed necessary 
  • Authorize department computer hardware and software purchase requisitions and notifies the business manager; authorize subscriptions to newswire services 
  • Perform high-level industry-specific research, deconstructing relevant case studies and uncovering insights 
  • Coordinate with lead strategists, researchers, account planners, media and creative people to architect and direct the execution of all social media initiatives 
  • Coordinate, direct and lead the daily production of content 
  • Actively participate in client meetings; lead the presentation of social media strategies and tactics 
  • Lead, manage and mentor the communications team 
  • Educate and inspire teams in external disciplines 
  • Ensure internal and external deadlines are met 
  • Be strategic when identifying project deliverables; think before writing, support the project goals, support the business goals and determine overall messaging strategy 
  • Produce exceptional work while under pressure of a deadline 
  • Provide detailed estimations of effort for various levels of copywriting, brand management, and public relation efforts
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills 
  • Flexibility in responding to changing demands, timelines and priorities 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing or related field 
  • 8+ years of professional experience as a communicator 
  • 5+ years of direct management experience 
  • Ability to manage time and priorities to work efficiently and effortlessly 
  • Effective verbal and written communicator utilizing various digital platforms 
  • Conscientious attention to detail 
  • Ability to work in a multi-task, multi-priority, high volume, and fast-paced environment with limited supervision and direction 
  • Highly organized and deadline driven 
  • Ability to handle and give feedback and constructive criticism 
  • Ability to work effectively on a team with a positive attitude and avoid gossip 
  • Passion for marketing and for pushing the limits of creative messaging
