Leads communications strategies for various digital platforms that support the fundraising and campaign objectives of the Foundation, to assist development officers and volunteers in their efforts to solicit and steward charitable gifts for the Hospital, and get involved in fundraising opportunities. The Foundation Communications Specialist skillfully develops an array of digital marketing communications and fundraising strategies including: social media campaigns, fundraising e-mail plans, seven comprehensive fundraising websites, and videos.

This position advances the objectives of the Foundation Marketing Communications Department, which is to communicate the Hospital’s mission, aspiration and needs to key constituencies with the purpose of facilitating fundraising success, increasing awareness of the impact of philanthropy on the hospital’s programs and services and demonstrating the value of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago as a resource for Chicago families.

Area Specific Job Accountabilities:

  1. Develops and executes communication and content strategies that support the fundraising and campaign objectives of the Foundation as well as efforts to solicit and steward charitable gifts for the Hospital. Scope of work includes digital communications and fundraising strategies, PR initiatives, video development, photo shoots, among other marketing communications needs. 
  2. Oversees the project management process for seven teamraiser fundraising websites, develops content and collaborates on each corresponding event’s overall marketing communications strategy in order to strengthen the Foundation’s peer-to-peer fundraising efforts which resulted in more than $3.2 million in revenue in FY16. 
  3. Develops, manages and tracks all Foundation social media initiatives to increase online fundraising, grown the email data base, and augment event, corporate, Annual Giving and Affiliated Organizations initiatives. 
  4. Collaborates with colleagues within the Marketing Communications digital team to develop and execute social media strategies for both the Foundation and the Hospital as a whole. 
  5. Manages the Lurie Children’s Social Media Ambassador Program including strategy development, promotional efforts, and ongoing communication with recruits. 
  6. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Content Marketing, English, Journalism or Advertising required. 
  2. Five years of experience in Communications, ideally in the non-profit sector with an emphasis on fundraising communications. Familiarity with healthcare a preferred. 
  3. Demonstrated strong writing and communications skills required. 
  4. Experience developing and analyzing social media programs on platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google+ 
  5. Strong interpersonal, project management and organizational skills. 
  6. Ability to work as a member of a team; attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects under demanding deadlines are essential. 
  7. Prior experience providing publicity support for donor-related events (news release, working with media and photographers.) 
  8. Familiarity with Web content management and Web-based communications. 
  9. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Convio and/or video production.
