The Associate Editor position includes developing, writing and production of print and online content for Lessiter Media's equine trade publication American Farriers Journal. The Associate editor will collaborate with the Managing Editor on short- and long-form features for both online and print, along with additional editorial projects. The postion requires regular writing assignments, copyediting and proofing of various written materials.  Other duties include posting content online, social media engagement relevant to the title, video production and a willingness to travel.

What We Expect You To Do:

Initiate, plan, develop and manage the execution of top quality editorial content that supports American Farriers Journal's objectives and goals.  Thought leader who constantly seeks out industry trends and information.  Must have an appreciation for equine health matters, be able to gather and analyze all available information with the ability to tell a story on how the information can benefit the audience, not just report facts.

Successful candidate must possess a flexible, adaptable attitude, with ability to learn, understand and simplify technical, business and specific hoof care information for niche audiences.

Requirements:

  • College degree in journalism or related field.
  • Strong understanding of professional publishing industry developed through at least 2-3 years experience.
  • Strong skills in time management, planning, attention to detail, communication - both written and verbal, and writing.
  • Experienced with social networking and digital media along with an understanding of its importance in today's industry.
  • Experience collaborating with a variety of people and functions.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • A fast learner, extremely meticulous, independent and self-directed.
  • A passion for publishing, online media, innovation, and delivering results.
