As Communications Director, you will serve as an advisor and key member of the Medtronic Business Services (MBS) leadership team, providing both strategic counsel and tactical support as MBS continues to build its portfolio of programs and visibility within the company. Additionally, you will lead the MBS Change Communications team, providing direction and oversight as they support the execution of prioritized MBS program and projects. The Communications Director will also flex to serve as the lead on select communications initiatives in support of both Global Communications and Global Operations & Business Services priorities.

This position reports functionally to the Senior Communications Director for Global Operations & Business Services and operationally to the Vice President of Medtronic Business Services.

A Day in the Life:

  • Provide ongoing communications leadership, counsel and feedback as a core member of the MBS Leadership Team. 
  • Provide oversight of the MBS Change Communications Team, enabling Change Communications support to help drive MBS-led programs with partner teams across Medtronic. Ensure core Global Communications messaging, tools and approaches are embedded in the work. 
  • Design and implement strategic and tactical communication plans that support key priorities on behalf of Global Communications and the broader Global Operations & Business Services organization. 
  • Actively partner with Change Management for ongoing stakeholder identification, engagement and alignment to support the execution of MBS programs and projects. Engage with Global Communications team members (Corporate/Business Group/Region, Internal and External Communications) to ensure visibility, engagement and coordination on MBS-driven initiatives as needed. 
  • Further drive standard communications processes and toolkits to support the full portfolio of MBS projects. 
  • Identify and support other MBS communications needs as the team grows and further establishes its operations, including communication tools, websites, case studies and features. 
  • Evolve and build upon the existing internal communications strategy for MBS to drive continued high levels of engagement and productivity. 
  • All activities must be performed in compliance with the local Quality System. 
  • Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations. 
  • All other duties as assigned. 
  • Travel requirement: 10-20%

Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 10+ years’ experience in a professional communications role (8 years with Masters) within a Corporate, Agency or Consulting environment 
  • Experience leading a communications team, prioritizing projects and providing oversight 
  • Experience planning and implementing strategic and tactical communications plans 
  • External communications and issues management experience 
  • Large-scale transformation efforts and change management frameworks 
  • Experience working in a variety of mediums, including print, social, digital 
  • Project management experience

Nice to Have:

  • Master’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or Public Affairs preferred 
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully supporting transformation and change efforts that involve diverse sets of stakeholders 
  • Strong business acumen and influence management 
  • Experience working in the medical device or healthcare industry helpful
