Do you wish to join one of the nation’s leading academic health centers for research and health profession education? Rush University Medical Center is seeking an inquisitive, proactive and dynamic Communications Manager!

Position Highlights:

The Communications Manager is responsible for the day-to-day communications activities in the University Relations department. Coordinates and implements marketing communications for internal and external Rush University audiences, using a multitude of communications channels including social media in order to serve a variety of internal stakeholders. He or she works closely with staff within Rush University and the four colleges, as well as with vendors and cross-campus partners such as Information Services, Marketing and Public Relations.

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with the planning and execution of the annual University marketing plan. 
  • Create and edit content for online and offline branded communications including advertisements, print publications, signage, portal and external websites, email, social media, presentations, internal communications and other promotional materials. Follow established branding, graphic identity and editorial standards. 
  • Meet with subject matter experts and collaborate with individuals to identify story and publication opportunities. Communicate project updates and progress to relevant parties. 
  • Manage content updates for communication and marketing materials that cross colleges, annual and/or evergreen projects such as recruitment materials, view books, microsites and social media experiences. 
  • Participate in meetings with departments within the University as well as Medical Center to plan for events and communications. 
  • Attend recurring meetings and conference calls with vendors and stakeholders around ongoing marketing and communications initiatives. 
  • Develop and maintain messaging and account maintenance for all University social media sites; regularly monitor the University's social media accounts for potentially actionable and damaging comments; partner with the Rush University Medical Center social media strategy manager to align best practices, policies and procedures; prepare and present reports within and outside the department on a regular basis. 
  • Manage (in conjunction with agency) social media and pay-per-click campaigns recruitment initiatives. 
  • Partner with college-specific marketing and recruitment officers to create and maintain communications calendar and deliverables.

Position Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; with a major in English, journalism, marketing or a related field preferred. Three or more years of relevant work experience required.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Experience writing and editing for a lay audience in communications that are health-related, academic, medicinal or scientific. Enrollment marketing, social media marketing and academic communications experience preferred. 
  • Exceptional verbal and written skills, with ability to communicate effectively and professionally with stakeholders at all levels. 
  • Computer literacy, including direct experience using Microsoft Office. Basic knowledge of HTML is preferred. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must be comfortable interviewing people at all levels of the organization, including senior leadership. 
  • Experience working collaboratively with other professionals to complete projects in a timely manner. 
  • Experience with overall social landscape, including understanding of the relative merits and nuances of different social media platforms; curiosity and drive to learn about new applications and forums as they emerge. 
  • Familiarity with the full range of social media tools and functionalities to meet marketing and communication goals. 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of multifunctional teams. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and ability to work occasional off-shift hours is expected.
