Overview:

The Respiratory Health Association has been a leader in public health since 1906, helping for over a century to prevent lung disease, promote clean air, and help people live better through education, research and policy change. The Association seeks an experienced professional to oversee all aspects of the organization’s communications and marketing. This is a hands-on position that requires active participation by the Director in the production of the department’s communication materials and in leading the Association’s internal and external communication and marketing efforts.

The ideal candidate must be able to manage multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development. Strong creative, analytical and strategic skills are a must; the ability to organize work assignments and manage projects effectively is required. The position will manage a marketing coordinator and will work in close collaboration with the Association’s departments of special events, development, and policy and programs.

Reports to: Senior Director, Operations/President & CEO. The Director of Marketing and Communications participates in weekly meetings with department heads and President & CEO.

Status: Full-time exempt

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the marketing and communications department by developing, managing and implementing projects and ensuring that all work is completed on-time and within budget. 
  • Oversee Respiratory Health Association’s website, social media presence and monthly e- newsletter. 
  • Manage the design, production and distribution of print and digital materials for the Association, including newsletters, brochures, collateral materials for fundraising events and annual reports. 
  • Maintain a strong and consistent identity for the Association, its programs and events. 
  • Develop and execute awareness campaigns for traditional and social media, including media planning, creative development and press outreach. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with news outlets, media personalities and supporters. 
  • Work with colleagues in the departments of programs and policy, development and special events to develop and implement communication strategies and shape messaging across the Association’s initiatives to reach a variety of audiences and reading levels, including children and adults living with lung disease, healthcare providers, policymakers, potential donors, event participants, advocates and other stakeholders. 
  • Supervise a marketing and communications coordinator and seasonal intern(s).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years’ experience in marketing or communications (project management and experience in public health and/or not-for-profit organizations preferred). 
  • Previous experience in media relations, including outreach, story development and pitches. 
  • Track record of success in the management of multiple projects, deadlines and constituents. 
  • Highly organized with attention to detail. 
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary teama must; supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Excellent writing and editing ability, preferably with knowledge of AP style. 
  • Knowledge of Informz or another e-mail marketing systema plus. 
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and HTML a plus.
