Overview:

WJ Weiser, a successful medical association management firm, is seeking a Manager of Development & Marketing to join our team in Schaumburg, IL. This position will support our client, the Worldwide Fistula Fund (WFF), a non-profit organization working to protect and restore the health and dignity of the world's most vulnerable women by preventing and treating childbirth injuries.

Working directly with the Executive Director and, to a lesser extent, the Board of Directors, the Manager of Development & Marketing will help create and implement annual fundraising and marketing plans to ensure WFF’s sustained revenue growth.

Responsibilities:

Strategic:

  • Create annual Fundraising & Marketing Plan with measurable goals in conjunction with the Executive Director
  • Outline Major Donor strategy
  • Develop solicitation, cultivation and retention strategies
  • Create annual Marketing Calendar and manage execution of activities
  • Participate in 5-year strategic planning
  • Participate in New Naming/Branding project 

Ongoing Development:

  • Research current and prospective donors to inform approach strategies
  • Create proposals to individuals, corporations and foundations
  • Develop strategies to broaden support base to include audience of smaller, younger donors including ongoing development of Associate Board
  • Work with internal support staff to utilize eTapestry donor tracking system and maintain records of all fundraising activity
  • Manage all cultivation and solicitation efforts
  • Cultivate prospective donors and supporters on a continuous basis
  • Serve as key contact for WFF throughout the philanthropic Chicago community, utilizing Executive Director’s time judiciously
  • Develop & support Board members’ individual fundraising efforts
  • Support future Development Committee meetings, tasks and follow-up
  • Work with Marketing Coordinator and internal support staff to execute all activities outlined in Fundraising & Marketing Plan to achieve goals including: direct mail appeals, e-appeals, social media appeals, etc.
  • Monitor and evaluate success of all activities, maintain all tracking reports, make recommendations to achieve annual results
  • Regularly update Executive Director on progress against fundraising goals
  • Update Board on fundraising benchmarks and progress against goals quarterly

Ongoing Marketing:

  • Work with Marketing Coordinator and internal support staff to execute all activities outlined in Marketing Plan to achieve goals including: direct mail, email, social media, PR, web content, etc.
  • Monitor and evaluate success of all activities, maintain all tracking reports, make recommendations to achieve annual results
  • Regularly update Executive Director on progress against marketing goals
  • Update Board on marketing benchmarks and progress against goals quarterly

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in non-profit management, business, writing or related field
  • Certified Fundraising Executive Certification a big plus
  • Master's Degree in business or relevant field a plus

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years development experience
  • Previous work with foundations, corporations or individual donors
  • Familiarity with donor database software, preferably eTapestry
  • Track record executing strategies to engage key leaders, retain and upgrade gifts
  • Grant and proposal writing experience
  • Major gift solicitation experience
  • Track record of revenue growth in a small development department
  • Previous experience working for an international non-profit a plus
  • Previous experience working with a Board of Directors a plus
  • Special events coordination a plus
  • Crowd-funding and peer-to-peer fundraising a plus
  • Capital campaign experience a plus
