  • Stay ahead by identifying culturally relevant trends impacting African American audiences and create story opportunities from real-time news events tailored to the African American community
  • Create great stories from clients’ business developments and data by conducting brand research, identifying and engaging with influencers across both traditional and digital platforms
  • Develop compelling, media-focused content, ranging from press releases and written pitches to digital and video content
  • Build strong relationships with national, regional and trade media as well as bloggers and influencers, including writing compelling pitches to journalists; specific emphasis on targets within the African American space
  • Work daily with media and influencers across multiple channels, including email, social media and phone

  • Respond to issues and crisis communications
  • Recommend and track measurement KPIs for earned media and influencer efforts
  • Participate in and attend client meetings
  • Collaborate with teams across multiple disciplines and successfully manage complex, fast-moving and unexpected communications challenges
  • Interact with clients to present strategic recommendations addressing challenges and opportunities, as well as in “think on your feet” situations

What You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in PR or journalism, with 3-5 years of related experience
  • Proven experience working with media and influencers and a strong portfolio of story placements within the African American media space
  • Superior writing and editing skills that can communicate creatively and in an engaging manner
  • Understanding of earned and paid media strategy and experience creating media plans
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and superior client service skills
