The Special Events Intern assists with the "behind the scenes" prep work and execution of Special Events, this fall will especially focus on the Hemophilia Walk, poinsettia sale and prep for Milwaukee's Best Bloody in the spring. GLHF is looking for an outgoing, detail oriented person to fill this roll.

The Special Events Intern assists with the 'behind the scenes' prep work and execution of our events, especially our annual Hemophilia Walks. Although the walks takes place in September, the intern would provide valuable assistance in the many areas of planning that go into preparing for a fundraising event.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain communication with confirmed team captains (via phone calls and e-newsletter)
  2. Motivate team captains to recruit new walkers and sponsorship
  3. Data entry and organization of poinsettia/ wreath sale
  4. Assist with design, writing and distribution of printed and web event materials
  5. Researching contacts for possible second Best Bloody event
  6. Assisting with developing and implementing marketing plan for Milwaukee's Best Bloody and new event.
  7. Assist with general event management tasks, and other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Basic office and computer skills. 
  2. Working knowledge of Word and Excel
  3. Donor Perfect or other databases a plus, but not required. 
  4. Familiar with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Vertical Response (or other email marketing software) desired, but not required. 
  5. Excellent phone presence. 
  6. Ability to cold-call effectively. 
  7. Detail oriented. 
  8. Able to take direction well. 
  9. Good follow through and follow up skills.

Minimum Level of Preparation and Training:

  1. At least one year of college. 
  2. Basic office skills. 
  3. Responsible and mature. 
  4. Recommendation by college professor or other professional.

Professional Benefit for the Intern:

Professional experience in the Non Profit world and Special Events experience. Also, exposure to Board of Directors and other executives and professionals in many different fields.

Working Conditions:

We are looking for a commitment of 8-10 hours per week, with flexibility around exam time, vacation time, etc. We are looking for a commitment of the summer, with the possibility of continuing in the position past one semester. The intern will share office space in the GLHF suite of offices in the Blood Center building at N. 18th St. and W. Wisconsin Ave.

The intern will work during regular GLHF hours, which are 8:30 - 4:30 from Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends (when executing an event). The intern will work under the supervision of Jessica Kveen, Special Events Coordinator.
