Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Communications Planning and Execution

  • Builds the reputation of HSD programs, schools, centers and institutes in a highly competitive market by creating strong marketing and communication strategies to position HSD within the Chicago, regional and national markets.
  • Develops, executes, measures strategic communication activities for the research and education mission of the HSD using audits, communication calendars, key message strategy, dissemination strategies and analytics.
  • Supports recruitment through development of marketing materials, media clips sharing, etc.
  • Supports the Provost with talking points, messaging, and script writing for key campus events and initiatives
  • Participate in division-wide strategic planning and special projects.

Communications and Content

  • Works collaboratively with Enrollment Management to support recruitment.
  • Manages messaging strategically and proactively across all channels (web, email, social media, PR, etc.)
  • Oversees the social media marketing strategy for the division (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
  • With assistance from the HSD communications specialist, gathers and packages timely information about key appointments, programs, research, successes and other news of interest to HSD’s key audiences and work with University Marketing and Communications (UMC) to share information via print and online marketing and communications channels (print, email newsletters, web, and video).
  • Directs media relations execution through partnerships with the Loyola University Health System (LUHS) and UMC, including building and maintaining databases, writing and distributing news releases, and pitching stories to appropriate news outlets. To do this, will need to manage bio databases and faculty experts lists for the school; create speaker outreach opportunities; create metrics; and provide media training as needed.
  • Oversees internal communications for HSD faculty, administration and students (print, email, digital screens, etc.).
  • Coordinates with UMC and LUHS to further disseminate HSD messages to broader Loyola community.
  • Leads the development of and provides strategic guidance for the annual Stritch School of Medicine and Niehoff School of Nursing magazines
  • Serves as the crisis communications point and works with LUHS and UMC for any reputation/crisis issues that occur on the Health Sciences Campus

Marketing and Project Management

  • Serves as the marketing project manager for strategic priority projects such a the Stritch Annual Awards Dinner
  • Oversees all marketing, advertising, and creative design initiatives and projects for the HSD and its departments, schools, centers, and institutes
  • Provides strategic direction for the HSD websites and works closely with the HSD web specialist to track analytics and content
  • Supervises the HSD communications specialist and HSD web specialist
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, in Journalism, Communications or related field; advanced degree in Business, Marketing or Communications preferred. 
  • Significant background, five-eight years, in Public or Media Relations, Marketing, or related communications experience.

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of media and integrated marketing a must. 
  • Ability to collaborate with various teams, including LUHS, advancement, UMC, special events, Graduate and Professional Enrollment Management, and program directors.
  • Ability to create and implement marketing plans that include budgets, timelines and metrics.
  • Superior verbal, written, communications planning skills required; solid command of various computer software and social media channels.
  • Comfortable working in a lean organization with limited direct reporting staff.
  • High ethical standards and integrity required.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Internet and email applications. 
  • Solid command of various computer software, including content management systems.
  • Strong understanding of social media tools and dashboards.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
