Trade Press Media Group, a Forum Media Group company, is looking for an experienced Commercial Sales Director to join our senior management team and lead our sales force in achieving annual growth goals. Having actively worked in the trenches of advertising sales (in an inside sales environment) you understand, and have a passion for, the challenges of selling advertising in an ever-changing media landscape. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for leading a dynamic group of Sales Managers in providing clients with innovative and effective multi-media and trade-show advertising solutions, always with an eye on increasing revenue. Comfortable in a highly organized, detail-oriented environment with multiple projects and conflicting priorities, you are a champion of contact management software because you strongly believe in its effectiveness as a tool for maximizing sales and managerial efforts. A motivator who leads by example, you have highly developed communication skills (verbally and in writing), high business acumen, and an enthusiastic desire to succeed.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Guide, coach and develop the sales team in order to achieve maximum profitability and align the team’s overall work ethic with company vision and values.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, operating procedures, market & target customer strategies, as well as recommending an overarching strategic vision.
  • Work with the CEO and other members of the organization’s senior management team to set growth direction for the company.
  • Contribute to our product-development vision, aiding in customer insights and trends.
  • Implement processes and establish KPIs that engage team members and foster a culture of continuous improvement to maximize potential and build leaders.
  • Measure, evaluate and communicate results to the sales team.
  • Direct the creation of sales aids and promotional material for the sales force to use. This includes anything from personal letters/e-mails, proposals and PowerPoint presentations, to preparing e-mail promo pieces; this will require collaboration with various departments in order to create comprehensive programs.
  • Work with Sales Managers to manage, maintain, cultivate & expand a portfolio of high profile clients, agencies, and top-business leaders to foster future revenue.
  • Liaise with internal department heads to develop media kits, advertiser-driven features, supplements & opportunities for all titles.
  • Support the sales team in the handling of problems, resolving complaints, responding to questions/concerns, providing market information, and administering follow-up activities.
  • Professionally represent our brands with clients, business partners and at industry events & conferences (this may include travel, as well as working the occasional weekend and/or evening.)

Qualifications: 

  • Post-secondary degree
  • 10 to 15 years of publishing industry experience, specifically in the B2B space, with 4+ years in digital/integrated media.
  • Minimum 5 years of inside sales leadership experience.
  • Successful track record of meeting sales targets.
  • The ability to negotiate, plan and problem-solve with grace under conflicting pressures.
  • Strong decision making skills.
  • Knowledge of business and managerial principles involved in strategic-planning, direction and coordination of people & resources, as well as the ability to assess their performance to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Proven team-leadership techniques along with the ability to give direction, take direction, motivate, challenge, and support the sales team to the next level in their careers.
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities, efficiency and effective time management skills required for handling multiple tasks, managing competing priorities, and meeting strict & changing deadlines in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
  • Highly computer literate with a demonstrated understanding of the digital world (both desktop and mobile platforms) and a keen understanding of digital marketing today.
  • Proficient with Google Docs/MS Office, database management programs & contact management software. Familiarity with ACT or similar CRM is an asset.
