JOB SUMMARY:

Meet Minneapolis is a not-for-profit organization contracted to market the City of Minneapolis as a destination for conventions and leisure travel, is looking for a highly motivated journalism, public relations or communications student to work with our PR and Communications team as a paid intern for the Summer (late May - August) and/or school year (September - May).

An ideal candidate will be someone knowledgeable of the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area, including downtown Minneapolis, events, arts, entertainment and culinary offerings. She/he will work closely with the Senior PR and Communications Manager, and should also be able to work independently, think creatively and demonstrate strong writing skills.

This individual will assist the PR and Communications team as they work directly with journalists and Meet Minneapolis partners – such as restaurants, hotels, entertainment venues and more – to ensure Minneapolis is seen as a premiere travel and convention destination by media, as well as event and convention planners and the general public.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This individual will assist the PR and Communications team in many aspects of work, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Write, edit and post Meet Minneapolis news releases; 
  • Write content regarding Minneapolis as needed; 
  • Organize media lists and list distributions in Cision; 
  • Respond to media requests as directed; 
  • Post Meet Minneapolis and partners' press releases and accolades to website; 
  • Gather news clips and impressions pertinent to the Meet Minneapolis audience; 
  • Assist in coordinating press conferences (as needed); 
  • Research area events; 
  • Research media coverage and industry trends; 
  • Identify content for media pitches and web or social needs; 
  • Work within photo library; 
  • Other duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • Actively pursuing a degree in Public Relations, Journalism or Communications with an emphasis in public relations. 
  • Candidate must be in school during the full term of the internship.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Interested in furthering his or her knowledge of the public relations and communications field 
  • Selected based on resume, interview and a short writing test

SKILLS:

Writing & Editing

  • Articulate messages using appropriate grammar, usage and vocabulary;
  • Attention to detail and proofreading;
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style preferred.

Organization

  • Prioritize tasks and organize workload for efficient time-management.

COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE:

Must be proficient in:

  • Mac and/or PC computers
  • Microsoft Office

Beginner knowledge of:

  • Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Social Media Channels

TIMING:

  • Summer (Late May–August) and/or school year (September-May); 
  • Hours flexible based on schedule, approximately 15 hours per week. 

PAY:

  • This is a paid internship.
