The Girls on the Run® Communications & Special Events Manager must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades. The Girls on the Run program provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living which includes an introduction and education onimportant topics such as goal-setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K event. The innovative curriculum teaches girls to listen and open up while also encouraging them to commit to a healthy lifestyle, and harness the inner strength that they possess. Our important mission is accomplished by giving girls the tools to make positive choices for a healthy body and mind, while reducing the many risks they face today.

The Communications & Special Events Coordinator is responsible for contributing to and assisting in the development, implementation and execution of GOTR's strategic communications and special events plan to help GOTR spread its mission of empowering more and more young girls in Southeastern Wisconsin.  This position is split 75/25 between Communications & Special Events. For program related activities, the Communications & Special Events Manager reports to the Girls on the Run Program Director. For communications and special events related activities, the Communications & Special Events Coordinator reports to the Executive Director.  

Communications (75%):

  • Serve as the organization’s lead on all external communications & recruitment materials
  • Writing and editing communications materials such as fact sheets, media alerts, bios, owned content, employee communications and presentations.
  • Manage Social Media Campaigns including Instagram & Facebook.
  • Serve as the organization’s lead on event set up and manage event registration using Event management online software (RacePlanner).
  • In coordination with web services provider, manage and update organization’s website content and photos as necessary.
  • Administrative duties include; manage, maintain and replenish inventory for events including GOTR Merchandise. Assist with Development related activities including database management.

Outreach related activities include:

  • Market Girls on the Run program to potential new sites through site visits, site recruitment events, race expos, etc. Work with community leaders, schools and other groups to maximize Girls on the Run success.
  • Work with Program Manager to conduct visits to current sites during the season which runs early September-mid.-November and mid-March- early June- site visits typically happen between 2:30- 6PM on weekdays. 
  • Serve as the organization’s lead on volunteer outreach, recruitment, placement and coordination. 
  • Assist Program Manager with Coach Training as needed.

Special Events (25%):

  • Plan and implement GOTR special events including GOTR Sneaker Soiree gala and smaller VIP events.
  • Manage all logistics of event including securing venue, securing & managing vendor relationships Recruit auction committee and manage auction items, online auction bid system and auction committee development of invitations and marketing materials for event.

Required:

  • Passion for GOTR’s mission and the ability to comprehend and effectively communicate issues surrounding empowerment, self-esteem, body image and whole-person health
  • Ability to serve as a role model, exhibiting GOTR core values
  • Two years experience working in Communications and/or Special Events management or related field
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with volunteers, board members, community and staff
  • Excellent written communication, research, and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Advanced knowledge: Google Docs, Excel, Web design knowledge and photo editing software
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time and be a tenacious problem solver
  • Ability to collaborate with and serve as an engaged member of the GOTR team
  • Ability to be flexible, nimble, and gracious
  • A desire to go above and beyond what is required of the position in an effort to ensure the success of GOTR
  • Ability to travel within the GOTRSEWI region using a personal vehicle
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Girls on the Run (or other similar youth, education, or wellness program)
  • Strong connections within the local community

Salaried (range $35,000)

Position Specifics: Full-Time (40 hours per week), must be available a minimum of three times per week between the hours of 2:30-6:00 PM (during GOTR seasons), busier during GOTR season running from September-November and March-June, slower over holidays and summer. No benefits. Vacation blackout periods: Fall 5K (mid-November to early Dec), Spring 5K (early June), Annual Fundraiser (end of Feb., TBD GOTR special events.
