The Communications Specialist works in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment developing and executing communications plans. The primary focus of this position will be to communicate information about City services and initiatives to the public and City staff through a variety of methods, including press releases, social media, website, mass notification system, intranet and video.

Specific duties may include:

  • Research, develop, write, edit and design newsletters, scripts, press release and other media. 
  • Produce videos and graphics to complement communications plans and projects. 
  • Consult with City departments to develop and execute communication plans to communicate information on City services, initiatives and programs. 
  • Research and respond to communications-related inquiries and complaints from citizens and City departments. 
  • Create, design, monitor, evaluate and manage webpages; ensuring that content and website appearance conform to citywide website guidelines. 
  • Collaborate with owners of web content areas to ensure that standards are met and that content is accurate and up-to-date. 
  • Develop the expanded use of social media and other technology channels to execute effective communication plans. 
  • Design, edit and produce flyers, brochures, inserts, posters and other promotional material.

Required:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related field. 
  • Minimum three to five years of experience in public relations, journalism or closely related field. 
  • Ability to execute projects under minimal supervision and work effectively and cooperatively with a wide range of internal audiences. 
  • Strong knowledge/experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro. 
  • Demonstrated skills in technical writing and media relations. 
  • Ability to handle multiple projects on tight deadlines.

Preferred:

  • Experience with MS Office Suite including SharePoint and Outlook along with experience with website development tools and applications. 
  • Significant knowledge project management, public relations, public policy and government operations.

Salary: $47,840.00 - $62,400.00 Annually
