PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting Innovative Blood Resources (IBR) Marketing team by overseeing internal and external B2C and B2B communications. The individual in this position will be the primary lead in developing, writing, editing, and managing through to publication and distribution (where applicable) internal (employee) communications, external business and consumer communications and campaigns, and other marketing and publicity materials – in digital, print, broadcast, social, and other media. The Communications Specialist will ensure communications and campaigns are effectively coordinated and managed for Innovative Blood Resources and its divisions in Minnesota and Nebraska. The Communications Specialist will collaborate with other members of the Marketing team to support other marketing and communications activities, including donor engagement, community events, and fundraising.

JOB DUTIES:

35%: Promotions & Collateral

  • Maximize opportunities to increase awareness among external and internal audiences of community and business issues, donor promotions, events, and other needs. 
  • Support consumer (donor) campaigns for promotions and other recruitment efforts. This includes creating communications under the direction of the Manager, Creative Services; Senior Designer; and Donor Marketing, Assistant Manager. 
  • Assist with promotions and recognition/incentive programs to recruit new donors/blood drive sponsors and effectively engage current donors/blood drive sponsors. 
  • Ensure consistency in donor recognition activities by utilizing best practices.

35% Media

  • Create and manage content for external (B2C and B2B) and internal (staff) audiences across a variety of media including digital (web and social) and other channels. 
  • Utilize best practices, including measurement of effectiveness and ROI of media activities. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets (e.g., broadcast and print). 
  • Work with the Marketing Team and Donor Recruitment to develop story ideas, including writing and pitching stories that support IBR’s mission and community involvement. 
  • Work with IBR Marketing team on media placement. 
  • Assist IBR experts and leadership in media and other presentations. 
  • Represent IBR as an effective spokesperson.

15% Events

  • Assist in planning and organizing donor recognition and community events.

15% Other Duties

  • At the direction of the Manager of Creative Services, duties may include other writing assignments, market research, fundraising and grants, supervising volunteers, and other tasks to support IBR’s mission.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field 
  • 3 years of experience in marketing communications, public and media relations, copywriting and editing, preferably in healthcare 
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Google Analytics, Adobe Photoshop, And CMS platforms

Preferred:

  • Valid Driver’s License 
  • Excellent written and oral communications 
  • Digital media experience, including web and social media 
  • Team player, self-motivated, and able to initiate, manage and complete complex projects 
  • Familiarity with project management, event marketing, and email tools
