COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST:

Under the direction of the Director of Communications and Public Relations, the Communications Specialist is responsible for assisting with the on-going development and implementation of a coordinated, district-wide communications and public relations program.

WHAT YOU’LL BE WORKING ON:

  • Assists in the planning and implementation of the district communications and public relations plan 
  • Writes, creates and edits material for a variety of audiences and purposes including newsletters, district website, marketing collateral, presentations, letters, video and social media content generated by the communications and public relations department 
  • Coordinates and implements the district social media strategy 
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of public relations initiatives 
  • Supports special programs, initiatives and events as required by the communications and public relations department 
  • Oversees and updates the district website, providing assistance and training to school and program staff 
  • Assists with photography and video production for use in news and marketing material 
  • Coordinates the use of the district’s mass communication electronic notification system, providing training assistance to school and program staff 
  • Maintains excellent relationships with students, administrators, teachers, staff, parents and community members for the purpose of serving as a communications liaison for schools and programs

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, design or a related field 
  • Two years of related professional experience 
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills with varied stakeholders (e.g. staff, parents, students, community and business people, elected officials) 
  • Proficient in use of publishing software including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Proficient in graphic design with an understanding of visual communication and branding concepts 
  • Experience using social media for businesses and/or organizations 
  • Experience with website publishing, content management systems and other technology needed for communications (e.g. Google Apps, digital photography, video) 
  • Project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and work under stress 
  • Detailed-oriented with proven ability to be consistently accurate 
  • Team player committed to the success of students, the department and the district 
  • Ability to work weekends and/or before-and-after hours when needed
