Do you love crisp prose? Does a well-structured sentence make you sigh? Are you focused on details? Do you tell all your friends when you spot a typo, misplaced modifier, or misused word? The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA)* wants to hear from you. WFAA is recruiting for a Copyeditor to join our Marketing and Communications team. This position will help proofread and copyedit WFAA materials and will maintain the WFAA style guide.

*The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association is the “doing business as” name of the merged organization comprising the University of Wisconsin Foundation (supportuw.org) and the Wisconsin Alumni Association (uwalumni.com). Its legal corporate name is registered as the University of Wisconsin Foundation.

Proofreading:

  • Copyedit and proofread WFAA publications and print and digital marketing materials
  • Edit projects of various lengths for development and stewardship staff
  • Edit using Chicago Manual of Style and similar reference tools
  • Collaborate with teams in the creative endeavor

Other:

  • Opportunity to contribute to WFAA’s magazines and editorial products
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in English, journalism, or a similar field.
  • Three to five years of experience in journalism, publications, corporate communications or editing; experience in higher education advancement and demonstrated ability to work independently preferred.
  • Familiarity with Word, InDesign, Acrobat, and similar software.Familiarity with Mac operating system.
  • Strong written and overall communication skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of both Chicago Style and AP Style.
  • Strong sense of initiative.An understanding of marketing and journalistic concepts.
  • Experience creating content about diverse constituencies.
  • Passion for UW-Madison.

This is a non-exempt, full-time position reporting to the Managing Director, Alumni Communications and Associate Publisher, On Wisconsin. We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and an excellent benefit program.
