The Corporate Storytelling Writer and Copy Editor supports communication to our employee audience, primarily through writing and copyediting for Allstate NOW, Allstate’s online employee news publication. Allstate NOW takes a journalistic approach to sharing Allstate’s story, with an emphasis on giving individual Allstaters a voice in helping their peers understand the important roles they play in the company’s success. This person will work to advance Allstate’s reputation and help employees understand and feel invested in company strategies, values and goals.

Key Responsibilities:

The Writer and Copy Editor’s primarily responsibilities include:

  • collaborate with internal communicators to write and edit informational briefs and announcements and other event-based news items 
  • mine external media for relevant industry news coverage to reprint 
  • research/report on localized/Allstate-specific insights that supplement these external media reprints 
  • publish content using our internal content management system

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • feature writing assignments, such as covering breaking news and corporate events/initiatives 
  • contribute to internal social media strategy 
  • help colleagues coordinate integration efforts across storytelling and stakeholder platforms 
  • applying editorial expertise to help build internal communication strategies across Corporate Relations as capacity permits 
  • pursuit of development opportunities based on internal communication needs and the candidate’s own strengths and interests 
  • photo editing and light HTML coding

Experience and Education:

  • 2-4 years in a writer/copy editor or editor/designer role 
  • Professional journalism experience preferred 
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field

Copy editing/writing expertise:

  • Exhaustive knowledge and application of Associated Press style 
  • Copy editing, headline writing and news reporting and writing experience
  • News judgment and analysis 
  • Keen eye for detail

Design and delivery skills:

  • Web content management system publishing experience preferred (will train on internal system) 
  • Basic photography skills, along with photo selection, editing and journalistic caption writing
  • Active participation in social media platforms
  • Competency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator preferred 
  • Basic HTML knowledge
  • Graphic design skills, including end-to-end infographics creation and digital illustration, are a plus
