Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, America’s premier contemporary dance company, seeks a dynamic, results-oriented, and mission-driven professional to serve as Director of Marketing and Communications. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for providing leadership and strategic oversight for marketing, communications, branding, and public relations activities across the organization. Creating compelling and consistent narratives that drive public perception and measurable outcomes is key to success in this role.

The Director of Marketing and Communications manages a team of three professionals specializing in communications, marketing, and media.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago brand. 
  • Creates and executes comprehensive, integrated, multi-channel marketing plans to boost subscriber and single ticket sales and enrollment in youth and adult training programs. 
  • Executes media strategies in concert with these marketing plans by researching, identifying, and cultivating press leads; pitching story ideas and placing provided media; and engaging the press and public with mission-centric communications via social media and other communications channels. 
  • Oversees execution of all public-facing materials including the organization’s Annual Report. 
  • Drafts organizational announcements, press releases, and public-facing copy as needed, coordinating their routing among relevant staff, and securing necessary approvals. 
  • Actively monitors published press coverage and social media mentions. Serves as a “front-line” communicator with the public, responding to inquiries and requests in a timely manner. Builds and maintains offline archives of key media coverage, and compiles topic-specific reports as needed to support senior staff. 
  • Receives and presents press inquiries — including photo and video requests — in a timely manner, and drafts and delivers press invitations for opening performances and other events. 
  • Project-manages photo calls, video capture, site visits, interviews, and media editing as necessary. 
  • Serves as the liaison when public-facing information and materials are transferred between Hubbard Street, its institutional collaborators and partners, booking agents, and touring performance presenters. 
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Provide general institutional support as member of the senior management team. 
  • Create and oversee marketing budgets and revenue projections, participating in strategic planning processes, participating in meetings of the Board of Directors, the Finance Committee and the Executive Committee. 
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five years or more of progressive experience in communications and/or marketing, including management experience. 
  • Experience working with a board of directors. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Hubbard Street gives preference to candidates who have demonstrable experience advocating for equity, diversity and inclusion.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
