A Day in the Life

The Director of Marketing and Strategy will be responsible for driving the global strategy and portfolio plan to enable future growth in this exciting field. The selected candidate will lead a team responsible for defining global customer and business needs for future products in the PM&D Diagnostics business, developing both short and long-range Strategic Planning and Business Development programs to ensure the best use of company resources in accordance with objectives for growth and profitability.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Develop and manage a team of high-performing Upstream Marketing professionals to achieve the Upstream team goals and objectives.
  • Lead the creation of market and therapy opportunity assessments to make informed recommendations for entering new patient segments, justifying new device and solution development, and expanding indications.
  • Lead the collection of global customer needs and requirements for future products or solutions and assist in the development of long-range product plans that meet/exceed customer requirements and are technically feasible and economically justifiable.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the product portfolio strategy
  • Be internal and external champion of the Diagnostics Strategic Plan and Portfolio Plan, while also leading Divisional Annual Strategic Plan activities.
  • Partner cross-functionally to develop comprehensive product strategies that span across multiple technology platforms to create integrated approaches to patients and data management.
  • Manage relationships with KOLs/advisory board members to gain feedback, translate unmet customer and market needs to identify potential new business opportunities.
  • Present Business Development opportunities to key decision makers within business unit and corporate development to gain approval for budget and resources.
  • Partner with R&D to ensure appropriate Marketing staffing on product core teams as new development projects are initiated.
  • Sets strategy and manages annual budget, maximizing effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Successfully leads a team of professional by focusing on engagement and inclusion.
  • Identifies, develops, and implements near-term and long-term business strategies relating to the development of new products, technologies, services, follow-on products, and/or industries.
  • Identifies markets, licensing opportunities, and determines the feasibility of business and product development.
  • Performs economic analyses on new or improved product opportunities.
  • Develops business models and determines market trends to substantiate long-term prospects.
  • Coordinates with internal departments in identifying and implementing business development projects.
  • May work with sales, marketing and potential customers to determine their needs.
  • Develops and disseminates information on a continuous basis to all pertinent parties concerning the fulfillment of project goals and objectives.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or Advanced Degree with a minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, minimum of 5 years of managerial experience
  • Medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotech firm is required with relevant industry experience with Marketing, Business Development, and Strategy
  • Experience managing direct reports and directly leading cross functional teams in the development and management of organizational strategic plans.

Nice to Have:

  • A demonstrated success in identifying and developing new market and business opportunities assessments, conducting diligence and executing Business Development deals is required.
  • Documented experience leading the process for the identification, negotiation and execution of various types of business development arrangements with external entities including IP transfers, co-marketing agreements, divestitures, joint ventures and acquisitions.
  • Strong multi-disciplinary skills in business and financial analytics, modeling, strategic planning, marketing, marketing research, public speaking, influencing and negotiation is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in Medical Device sales or customer-facing marketing a plus.
