Earned and Owned Media Manager, Public Affairs & Communications

U.S. Bank is seeking a dynamic communicator to join the company’s Communications and Public Affairs team as an Communications Manager.

This individual will be responsible for helping generate internal and external visibility in key local markets and nationwide, with a particular focus on the company’s physical asset and branch location strategy. This individual will be part of the team focused on developing and executing internal and external communications strategies that target customers, employees and communities with a goal of communicating transparently, deepening customer loyalty and highlighting USB’s competitive advantages.

This person will work with stakeholders from across business lines and senior management in developing and implementing strong customer-, employee- and community-centered communication plans that drive business results.

Reports to the Vice President, Earned and Owned Media.

Responsibilities include:

  • Create and implement an integrated internal/external communications program for the company’s site strategy.
  • External communications planning and execution for strategic initiatives across U.S. Bank’s Consumer and Business banking division.
  • Proactive media relations.
  • Draft and edit internal and external communications including publications, speeches and executive briefings.
  • Communications counseling in support of business opportunities.
  • Developing creative, strategic communications strategies to tell the U.S. Bank story internally and externally.
  • Consulting, writing and editing for owned media channels.
  • Partner closely with colleagues in marketing, corporate social responsibility and customer communications to ensure an integrated approach to planning and execution.


  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or equivalent. 
  • Experience in Agile preferred, but not required. 
  • At least 10 years of communications / public relations / media relations experience. 
  • Excellent verbal, writing & editing skills, and knowledge of AP Style. 
  • Ability to build and manage internal relationships with all levels of executive leadership and client-facing staff. 
  • Experience in communicating customer-facing retail or branch openings, closings and relocations preferred. 
  • Experience working directly with media, including as an on-the-record spokesperson preferred. 
  • Highly-organized individual able to manage multiple projects within very tight deadlines. 
  • Experience using social media to amplify marketing / PR content. 
  • Experience with financial industry desired.
