Purpose of this Position:

The Events and Marketing Coordinator is part of the SERC administrative team supporting the work of SERC and the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT). The Events and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for the following:

  • Logistical coordination of numerous Science Education Resource Center (SERC) and National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) workshops and meetings locally and nationally ( I 0-100 participants), including the annual Earth Educators’ Rendezvous (300+ participants).
  • Developing and implementing marketing and advertising strategies for SERC, SERC collaborators and NAGT as appropriate. In addition, he/she is engaged as part of the administrative team in shared responsibility for a varying portfolio of program and project support tasks.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:

  • Plan and coordinate workshop logistics including catering, hotel/dorm blocks, ground transportation, workshop materials, etc.
  • Serve as the main point person for logistical planning and coordination for the annual Earth Educators’ Rendezvous conference. This requires travel to the Rendezvous.
  • Manage the NAGT Booth and promote NAGT and SERC activities, events and resources at the Geological Society of America and American Geophysical Union meetings and other meetings as appropriate. This requires travel to the meetings.
  • Design and implement marketing, outreach, and publicity efforts for SERC, NAGT, and SERC’s numerous collaborating projects in consultation with the SERC Director, NAGT Executive Director and project leadership.
  • Manage and develop ad sales for NAGT.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Writing assignments as appropriate. 
  • Other tasks as assigned

Supervision Received and Exercised:

  • The Events and Marketing Coordinator is supervised by the SERC Financial and Administrative Director.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage and complete multiple projects on schedule and to deal patiently with changing priorities. 
  • Strong organizational skills including ability to track multiple elements progressing through a complex process. 
  • Ability to think creatively, critically, and strategically while moving forward defined and loosely defined tasks. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including demonstrated ability to write ad copy and news stories (a writing sample is required). 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, documentation and organizational skills; ability to accept criticism and manage conflict; ability to follow through with stakeholders and colleagues. 
  • Comfortable with online tools including authoring, social media, publishing, and distance collaboration. 
  • B.S. or B.A. degree, 1-3 years previous experience in marketing and/or communications. 
  • Ability to work both independently and to function as a respected team member with faculty, administrative, and staff colleagues. 
  • Team-oriented and collaborative.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with advertising sales particularly in related sectors. 
  • Experience with higher education and faculty communications. 
  • Experience working in higher education and/or nonprofit sector. 
  • Comfortable with online tools including authoring, social media, publishing, and distance collaboration.
