This is an incredibly exciting time to join the Homes and Global Distribution team at Honeywell! Homes and Global Distribution is a leader in the home heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) controls and security markets, and a leading global distributor of security and fire protection products.

In 2018, Honeywell will be spinning off the Homes and Global Distribution business into a stand-alone, publicly traded company. Being a stand-alone company will provide the business the independence, focus, direct financial resources, and flexibility required to adapt quickly to market and customer dynamics, and we want you to be part of its evolution.

Honeywell Home is seeking qualified consumer public relations and strategic communications candidates for our Homes business to drive consumer and retail PR activities and work collaboratively across the communications function. The ideal candidate will report to the director of external communications for Honeywell’s Connected Home business.

This role can be based in Melville, New York (Long Island) or Golden Valley, Minnesota and will be part of a global team of strategic communications professionals working in support of Honeywell Homes.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic communications planning, counsel and execution focusing on consumer, shelter and technology media, as well as support of the company’s other connected home products and software worldwide. 
  • Serve as a consumer/retail PR expert and also be a resource to the global communications team for writing, pitching, editing and brainstorming. 
  • Share best-in-class communications across all lines of business. 
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with key consumer/retail journalists, bloggers and other influencers worldwide. 
  • Constantly evaluate opportunities to apply consumer/retail PR and integrated communications in support of the business to reach customers, employees and other constituencies on behalf of the company. 
  • Draft news releases, statements and other media outreach materials. 
  • Manage global PR agency to optimize media outreach in key markets. 
  • Ability to travel up to 30%

YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, communications or business related degree 
  • 10 + years of experience in public relations in a corporate or agency environment 
  • 5+ years of consumer-focused media relations experience

  • Proven track record in delivering measured results through planning, managing and executing public relations programs 
  • Strong writing, verbal and presentation skills 
  • Strong familiarity of AP style and experience working under deadline 
  • Solid understanding of a PESO approach to integrated communications (paid, earned, shared, owned) 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the changes to journalism and its impact on brands 
  • Experience presenting to and interacting with business leaders 
  • Sound judgment and business maturity to protect the company’s reputation during crisis situations and respond to the media 
  • Self-starter with outstanding organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written 
  • Excellent organization and management skills with the ability to multitask 
  • Demonstrated superior ability to think independently, strategically, and effectively prioritize projects 
  • Experience working in a fast-paced team-oriented environment 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Federal Trade Commission (FTC) endorsement guidelines for bloggers and influencers
