The Graphic Design Specialist position functions within a team framework to efficiently design and produce materials for printing, display or publication that enhance the museum’s image and attract prospective visitors, members, and donors to Madison Children’s Museum. The position provides design expertise in the implementation of a diverse spectrum of materials for promotions, marketing campaigns, communications and special events. Tasks are diverse and time sensitive, requiring a high degree of creative thinking and collaboration.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Works closely with marketing and other MCM staff to determine project needs.
  • Conceptualizes and creates all graphics materials for advertising and communication purposes, such as (but not limited to) advertisements, program brochures, booklets, posters, programs, invitations, newsletters, calendars, annual reports, trade show displays, e-mail campaigns, and social media graphics, seeking the most cost-effective solutions.
  • Working closely with the Communications Coordinator, assists scheduling, processing and trafficking of collateral/artwork from inception to completion, managing workflow of deliverables, and ensures projects are completed on schedule, on scope and within budget.
  • Ensures the integrity of the MCM brand standards and logo in all projects that come through Marketing & Communications.
  • Documents best practices and updates branding guidelines as needed.
  • Completes visual design and ongoing graphics maintenance/updating of MCM online activities as necessary in consultation with the Director and Communications Coordinator. This could include work on the following: MCM Home Page, Calendar, E-communication templates (Emma)
  • Consult/assist staff with web page development
  • Takes inventory of stock materials and replenishes as needed with approval of Director.

Related duties:

  • Maintain a catalog system for MCM project files and other digital assets
  • Assist with updating the website
  • Participate in museum-wide events and activities
  • Occasional weekend and evening work required

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced demonstrated experience in graphic design and high-level desktop publishing skills.
  • Desirable: Degree or diploma in Art, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Advertising/Public Relations, with a strong emphasis on graphic design or related area.
  • Complete understanding of design to publication process (eg, how completed files should be provided to a printer).
  • Excellent working knowledge in the following areas is preferred (Adobe Creative Suite 5 or higher): Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, WordPress, Emma (or other similar email program, such as Constant Contact), Basecamp or other project management software, other desktop/electronic/website publishing & graphic software
  • Adaptability to new developments in graphic design
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and initiative, including digital asset management and traffic
  • Passion for MCM’s mission and understanding of our vision and values

Full-time, 32 hours/week. Benefits eligible: health, dental, vision, life, etc.

Hourly range: $17.00-19.00
