The organization is one of the largest of its kind in the country, with over 4,500 members and 84,000 festival attendees. Milwaukee Film is the engine behind the Milwaukee Filmmaker Alliance, an industry pillar with nearly 400 members dedicated to stimulating and growing the filmmaking economy in southeastern Wisconsin and beyond. In addition, Milwaukee Film operates the magnificent Oriental Theatre, a historic three-screen cinema committed to high-quality and accessible film and education programming.

Milwaukee Film seeks a well-organized and experienced individual for the role of Graphic Designer. This is a full-time contractor position, with the potential for a full-time salaried position. The Graphic Designer will report to the Chief Marketing Officer.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Basically, you’d be our primary pixel pusher. Whatever we need, you’d make. Yes, that’s a lot of power. But with great (design) power comes great responsibilities. Here’s a list of the things we’ll expect from you if you get this job:

  • The big one: design our entire 150+ page Festival Program Guide
  • Have a thorough understanding of print production, layout, typography
  • Work directly with the Marketing & Communications team to develop and execute print and digital collateral for the entire organization and its various brands and campaigns as needed, including but not limited to: web banners, event signage, ads, brochures, direct mail pieces, newsletter graphics, business cards, on-screen slides, print collateral, merchandise design, campaign materials and more 
  • Maintain brand/identity standards throughout your work and ensure brand adherence and consistency in the work of contractors and other partners
  • Serve as direct contact between printers and vendors, as needed
  • Collaborate with and direct photography partners to ensure image capture is on brand, strategic and supports intended image use in marketing and communication materials
  • An ability to juggle multiple projects, keep it together under pressure, and meet demanding deadlines

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design preferred
  • 3-5 years of professional design experience
  • Page layout skills an absolute must
  • Love of cinema is a must
  • Must play well with others
  • Proficient in G Suite (Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Docs)
  • Proficient in Adobe’s App Empire, primarily InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to learn quickly and prioritize needs
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Bonus points if you have any video editing skills

HOURS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

This is a full-time, year-round contract position. Milwaukee Film’s offices are open from 9am-5pm weekdays. Additional night and weekend hours will be necessary for events as well as in the lead-up to and 15-day duration of the annual Milwaukee Film Festival. Compensation will be commensurate with rank of hire based on experience and qualifications.
