The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) is Wisconsin's only four-year independent, coed, professional art and design college. We offer a BFA in five majors: Communication Design, Illustration, Industrial (product) Design, Interior Architecture + Design and New Studio Practice: Fine Arts. The college is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art & Design (NASAD) and North Central Association (NCA).

MIAD's campus is located in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward. MIAD enrolls 650+ students and employs 200 faculty and staff. The college is on a trajectory to increase its enrollment by 25 percent over the next five years.

The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design seeks a highly qualified, passionate and creative Graphic Designer to develop and design branded marketing/communication collateral for print and digital audiences. The Graphic Designer works collaboratively with the Development/Communications team, in-house clients (such as Admissions, Galleries), external vendors and key college stakeholders to support MIAD’s strategic priorities and build the institutional brand to support the college’s growth.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Use imagination and originality to design compelling visuals for print, web, social media, digital signage and other emerging platforms, from creative concepts through production. 
  • Manage all phases of the design and printing process for annual report, admissions catalog/viewbook, direct mail, ads, signage and more. 
  • Ensure all creative collateral for the college supports its strategic goals and brand identity, and takes into account intended use, audience, cost estimates and distribution, and the specific project’s goals and objectives. 
  • Maintain and implement existing brand guidelines. 
  • Photograph campus activities and events (as needed), edit photos, and implement and play a lead role in managing the college’s photo management system. 
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting project expectations and deadlines.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Candidate for this position must have:

  • Knowledge of contemporary design, social, cultural and media aesthetics/trends. Proven ability to build solid, collaborative client/partner relationships across departments, functions and personalities, as well as ability to work independently. 
  • Solid knowledge of the print process (initial concept, pre-press, final printing), as well as basic knowledge of USPS postal regulations for designing print collateral for mailings.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office, and the ability to adapt to changing technology and acquire new skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail. 
  • Excellent planning, organization and communication skills. 
  • Highly productive work ethic that thrives in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Skill to create original art/illustrations using computer software. 
  • Excellent photography skills. 

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in graphic design, visual communications or related field. 
  • Minimum three years of progressively responsible experience in graphic design.
