Reporting to the Managing Director of Development and working closely with the other members of the Development team, the Individual Giving Manager is responsible for leading on the creation and implementation of the plan to build sustainable relationships with individual donors/philanthropists and family-based foundations that lead to $1.4 million. The Individual Giving Manager will be responsible for supporting site leaderhsip with the implementation and expansion of City Year Milwaukee's Red Jacket Society. The goal is to build a robust and active donor pipeline in order to meet long-term fundraising and impact goals.

Responsibilities:

Fundraising Strategic Plan:

  • Work closely with the Managing Director of Development (MDD), Executive Director and other Development Department team members to create and execute the annual development plan and strategy to sustain and increase individual giving, with a goal of securing at least $1.4 million from individuals and family foundations. 
  • Assist MDD and Executive Director in the implementation and expansion of the local Red Jacket Society. 
  • Assess and improve process of identifying, cultivating, securing, and stewarding individual and family foundation donors.  

Donor Retention and Growth:

  • Identify and cultivate new and renewed funding from individuals and family foundations that reflect their philanthropic and community engagement goals. 
  • Collaborate with Institutional Giving Manager to leverage individual support from corporate partners. 
  • Create persuasive and inspiring proposal materials for individuals and family-based foundations 
  • Write grant proposals, reports, letters, as well as prepare presentations that are persuasive, inspiring, and customized to target audiences. 
  • Partner with Regional Grant Writer to deliver grant proposals and reports, as specified on the site “grants calendar” when needed for family-based foundations. 
  • Partner with HQ Research team to identify and qualify new potential individual and family foundation donors. 
  • Maintain accurate records and donor information in database. 

Donor/Prospect Management:

  • Develop and oversee relationship management plans for each donor and prospect in a pipeline of at least 75 individuals and/or family foundations. 
  • Maintain and steward individual relationships through donor recognition programs and stewardship, including written correspondence, as well as telephone and in-person communication. 
  • Ensure proper and timely recognition of donors and ongoing stewardship. 
  • Manage database of contacts, through use of Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system (cychannel/Salesforce). 
  • Maintain accurate data and ensure all data is entered in a timely manner including but not limited to: new contacts, updated contact information, meeting information, etc. 
  • Actively participate in regular site pipeline meetings by providing input on the agenda, requesting and presenting research and prospects for strategic input. 
  • Manage Red Jacket Society (RJS) Ambassador Program to ensure regular communication and engagement between RJS member and CYMKE corps member. 

Event Management:

  • Serve as a positive City Year Milwaukee representative at local corporate and community functions. 
  • Leverage existing and future City Year events, such as opening day, the annual dinner, specialty-market events, champions’ receptions, and other select gatherings, to raise awareness and to secure financial resources for our work. 
  • Lead on planning logistics of Red Jacket Society events in support of Managing Director of Development. 
  • Support the Civic Engagement team in securing event sponsors for the three major service day events: Make a Difference Day, MLK Day, and Global Youth Service Day. 
  • Assist with all City Year signature events as a member of the Development team. 
  • Oversee individual donor cultivation events aimed at engaging potential individual donors.
  • Minimum 2 – 5 years professional experience: individual giving/major gift fundraising experience, or related field, with proven track record. 
  • Proven networking and relationship management skills. 
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently to achieve goals. 
  • Strong research skills preferred—ability to identify and research individual donor prospects.
  • Experience using donor/relationship management software to track donors, establish goals, and generate reports. Experience with Salesforce preferred OR experience working in computer programming that will be transferable to quickly learning our donor management software. 
  • Experience in AmeriCorps or related service experience preferred. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds, interests, and skills required.
