The responsibility of the Manager–Digital Operations includes developing and implementing the overall strategic direction of TDS’ customer-facing experiences (web sites) and digital marketing operations, including ILEC, CLEC and Cable operations. This position is also responsible for the research, development, design, usability, management, hosting and maintenance of TDS’ online marketing, e-commerce, and e-service operations and initiatives for both Commercial and Consumer teams, including:

  • Managing overall site performance and revenue generation. 
  • Developing strategic operations plans for online initiatives; works closely with Consumer and Commercial Marketing Managers to collaborate on digital marketing strategies. 
  • Developing and implementing social media and blog integrations within digital experience. 
  • Managing and measuring Search Engine Marketing and Search Engine Optimization (SEM/SEO). 
  • Budgeting and business case development for site/operations enhancements and new projects. 
  • Providing direction for legal/policy/procedure development for Internet marketing activities. 
  • Developing and tracking Key Performance Metrics (KPMs) to track the effectiveness of the site(s); recommending and implementing tactics to improve performance based on measurements 

The person in this position manages a team including front-end designers web analytics expert(s), Internet marketing professionals, ecommerce specialist(s), quality assurance analyst(s), content management and email automation coordinator(s), and project management personnel. The Manager also works closely with the IS organization to communicate future projects and needs, and facilitates regular meetings and project plans between the groups to ensure all needs are met. The Manager also stays abreast of trends in the industry, and works with outside vendors to research and help identify applications needed to facilitate best-in-class website and digital marketing effectiveness.

  • Create, implement and maintain overall strategic direction for TDS’ online customer-facing experiences and Web sites, including researching and evaluating market, technological, and industry trends and providing regular insights and presentations to TDS Leadership Teams. 
  • Work with Consumer and Commercial Product Management and Marketing teams to market our products and services online to our consumer and commercial customers, including researching best practices, measuring, and conducting usability to continually improve the online customer experience and/or conversion rates. 
  • Work with IT, Billing Operations, Technical Support and other resources to optimize site operations and support. 
  • Work with Product Management and Development, and IS on next generation products, services, content and functionality being delivered online during research and analysis of new products, services and content. 
  • Oversee and maintain external relationships and contracts with content providers, Web developers, paid search vendors, Web analytics vendor, and Google. Implement SEM/SEO best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher OR 4+ years professional work experience. 
  • 7+ years’ experience managing E-Commerce Web sites or managing digital marketing strategy and implementation. 

Other Qualifications:

  • MBA a plus. 
  • Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM) best practices. 
  • Indirect experience with e-commerce, usability, analytics, marketing, and/or product management. 
  • Must have proven experience with permission-based e-mail marketing best practices. 
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Strong technical, design, marketing and usability background in order to direct diverse staff. 
  • Understanding of legal issues and best practices that are unique to the Internet. 
  • Strong PC skills including a strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including presentation skills. 
  • Must be versatile and adaptable to many different types of people and situations and must be able to work with a staff of diverse backgrounds, ages and levels within and outside the organization. 
  • Excellent teamwork skills and ability to work with employees and outside vendors at all levels. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, follow-through and attention to detail.
