The Market Access Coordinator (MAC) is a new position created to increase the knowledge of the availability of EBT use at Brown Deer Farmers Market. The ideal candidate for this position will be from the community, and passionate about food justice and equity. This position has been created in collaboration with The Village of Brown Deer, University of Wisconsin-Extension, Farm to Facts (previously MIFI), and American Family Insurance.

Primary Responsibilities will include:

  • Visiting nearby community centers and food banks to inform people about the availability to use SNAP, WIC, and Senior benefits at Brown Deer Farmers Market. 
  • A list of destinations/organizations will be provided, but the MAC will be encouraged to grow this list of organizations/places. 
  • Distribute marketing materials. 
  • Contribute to developing marketing materials. 
  • Be in attendance at every market day, from 9A to 6P on Wednesdays. This will include: Using equipment to sign individuals up for a Quest Card if they do not already have one. Disseminating information about EBT, SNAP, WIC, and more. The MAC must develop the confidence to answer questions about these programs. Create connections with community members and market patrons to make them feel welcomed and encouraged to attend the market. Data collection and entering using instructions according to Farm to Facts.

Preferred Qualities of applicant:

  • A member of the Brown Deer community. Although this is desired we are willing to look outside our boudaries. 
  • Multi-lingual, Hmong preferred. A current or former user of SNAP, WIC, or other benefits, or someone who is familiar with the programs. 
  • Excellent and prompt communicator via email, phone, and in person when necessary. 
  • Self-motivated and an independent worker. This will include performing their own research and other acquisition of knowledge as they see fit or as suggested. 
  • Has reliable access to transportation. .

This position will run from Mid-March through the end of November 2019. Hours will vary between 5-20 hours per week, being the heaviest during market season. Compensation is $17/hour and stipends will be provided for gas/transportation. Applicants should expect to work nights and weekends and be able to provide detailed descriptions of the performed work.
