The East Town Association was established in the early 1960’s by a group of East Town merchants looking to spur the growth of the business community in downtown Milwaukee. Officially incorporated in 1983, the Association has made great strides toward improving the health of the business community and creating a vital neighborhood for both corporations, retailers, restaurants, and service providers. Today over 200 businesses and 100 individuals, who are members of East Town Association, believe in the economic growth and vitality of downtown Milwaukee.

The mission of East Town Association, Inc. is to use its events and programs to cultivate a vibrant community experience, enhancing the neighborhood image and appeal and preserving and celebrating our rich heritage. The geographic boundaries of the East Town community include the area of downtown Milwaukee east of the river from Clybourn Street on the south and Ogden Avenue on the north, extending to Lake Michigan on the East. East Town Association seeks a part-time Market Manager to work hands on at the Cathedral Square Market throughout the summer from May through October. The Market Manager will work 5-15 hours per week. Work hours include Saturdays, 6:45am-2:00pm during Market season (June 15 – October 12) and flexible office hours during the week.

The Market Manager is a part-time position with primary responsibility being vendor relations and the day-to-day operation of the farmers market. This includes an on-site presence at the market during all operating ours as well as off-site work during non-market hours. The manager will work closely with East Town Associations Executive Director and Events & Marketing Manager who will set all market policies, vendors, and programming. The manager will represent East Town Association to the market’s vendors, consumers, and community.

Managerial duties:

  • Collect and track all farmers market vendor applications including proper data, licensing, and payments
  • Communicate policies, rules and activities and answer all questions from vendors throughout the application process
  • Research and solicit new market vendors in order to ensure diverse offerings for the community
  • Facilitate strong relationships and maintain contact with vendors throughout the season
  • Update vendor database with proper contact information or licenses, attendance, and sales each week
  • Bring all feedback from vendors and patrons to East Town Association Staff in order to properly address all suggestions and concerns
  • Work with East Town staff and stakeholders to plan for market growth and development

Market duties:

  • Market Set-Up including properly placing vendors in stalls, assigning market stalls to daily vendors, and ensuring all supply vehicles are properly parked prior to market start time
  • Assure the market site is clean when the market is closed and make certain all vendors have left for the day
  • Ensure all rules and regulations are adhered to
  • Respond to all questions and requests from vendors and consumers
  • Greeting all individuals involved in market programming
  • Paying bands and entertainers each week
  • Conducting hourly counts to assess the level of growth in market usage
  • Resolve any issues that may arise in a timely, professional, and safe manner
  • Serving as a Cathedral Square Market informational ambassador
  • Staffing the Cathedral Square Market info booth, have nutritional/seasonal food education materials available including recipes for local foods available at the market

Other Office Duties:

  • Answering phones & responding to general event questions
  • Greeting customers in the office
  • Database management & updating

We are seeking a self-motivated individual who is passionate about the community and eager to support local agriculture, business, and culture. Candidates must have the ability to work under pressure, think creatively, stay organized, and communicate effectively. Persons need to be dependable, enthusiastic, personable, comfortable in social settings, dynamic, and eager to learn the event business. Experience with market research, event management, and marketing are helpful.

This position pays $15/hour and includes parking during work hours as needed.
