Join the AMA team as a Marketing and Communications Manager, Information and Engagement in Strategy. The AMA has a dynamic opportunity for an experienced communications professional to manage and support communications and product development initiatives in one of the high visibility areas of the AMA, Improving Health Outcomes (IHO). This individual will be responsible for managing day to day marketing and communications strategic initiatives for the AMA, and advancing/protecting the reputation of the organization, both proactively and reactively. The right leader will be a highly experienced and passionate about the AMA and its mission.

S/he will manage, lead, and inspire the IHO team, in addition to matrix resources, including communications and marketing across a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, using a broad range of traditional and social media. The successful candidate will collaborate with the other members of the IHO team to advance the goals of the AMA. This includes supporting the development, integration, and implementation of: Marketing Strategy, Creative, Digital and Social Media, External Media/Publications as well as AMA owned channels, Brand Tools and Assets. The manager will be tasked with promoting AMA research through press releases, video, and other outlets; managing the design and implementation of IHO promotional materials in concert with its external partners; providing communications assistance and support for web design, messaging, events, video, photography, media training, and related activities— ensuring that all delivery mechanisms for the AMA’s brand, both traditional and new/emerging, are aligned, synchronized and consistent in messaging and voice.

The project manager must understand the unique AMA culture and role in promoting the Art and Science of Medicine and the betterment of Public Health.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in marketing, health administration or other related field preferred. 
  • A minimum of five years post-degree experience in a health-related field. Experience with communications, marketing, and product development preferred. 
  • Experience in chronic disease prevention working with clinicians in a health care delivery setting, public health agencies, health care consulting or health policy agencies, preferred. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously; ability to function effectively as a team member. Strong knowledge of the project management process, planning and execution. 
  • A thorough understanding of, and specific experience in, developing and implementing branding and strategic communications plans in both traditional and new media. 
  • Superb organizational and written/verbal communications skills, and demonstrated experience in managing communications during crisis situations. 
  • Exceptional judgment, a reputation for integrity and discretion, and the ability to think strategically and deliver tactically. 
  • Highly experienced at using data and logic to inform decisions and strategies. 
  • Strategic Orientation: Experienced at defining strategic roadmaps and architectures across a portfolio of brands. 
  • Collaboration and Influencing: Demonstrated high-level of capability in building strong multi-functional and cross-organization relationships that are the enabler for getting things done. 
  • Results Orientation: Demonstrated ability to grow iconic brands through executing marketing plans that have consistently delivered above category performance levels. 
  • Innovative: Articulate and inspire visions and planned outcomes. 
  • Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize work, and multi-task across many assignments; think both strategically and logically, with the ability to function effectively under tight deadlines and high workload. 
  • Demonstrated ability to handle ambiguity and adapt effectively to changing circumstances. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Adobe and Outlook.
