JOB SUMMARY:

The Marketing and Communications Specialist shares the stories of Robbinsdale Area Schools with a variety of internal and external district stakeholders. This position is responsible for the tactical implementation of various communications strategies, including the district's websites, social media channels and other district-wide messaging. This position also works with, and supports, local media outlets pursuing stories relating to the district. Finally, this position participates in the planning and execution of various events and publications, and provides both crisis and non-crisis communications-related counsel to internal stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the ongoing development and implementation of the comprehensive district marketing and communication plan. 
  • Create press releases, web content, social media posts, communication plans, newsletter content, speeches and scripted comments for public events. Proofread and edit written content and slides for electronic presentations. 
  • Work with staff on communications, events, programs, stories and projects as assigned. Serve as a point of first contact for media-related data requests and story inquiries. Serve as media liaison for school events and bi-monthly “Standout Student." 
  • Design flyers, brochures, web graphics and newsletters. 
  • Create, implement and support social media campaigns and initiatives. 
  • Oversee district websites. Update and post electronic communications, including electronic newsletters, social media, website content, all district messages and emergency weather communications. 
  • Review and make recommendations for approval all community, city, and district flyers as well as content for distribution to schools. 
  • Provide support and training for school website coordinators through in-person training, online troubleshooting, regular email updates and self-created tutorials. 
  • Conduct staff training for cabinet, program directors and other district staff related to strategic communication and building central office capacity. 
  • Complete budget entries for requisitions, registrations and supply orders for the department as needed. 
  • Serve as project manager for special communication projects such as videos or school communication plans related to useful items of interest for district stakeholders. 
  • Take photos and report on school events; edit, create, and share this content on a variety of platforms. 
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or English is required. 
  • At least one year of marketing or communications experience is required. 
  • Demonstrated ability in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Publisher or other Desktop Publishing programs, Adobe Photoshop or other industry standard photo manipulation software. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social media. 
  • Demonstrated ability in website information maintenance. 
  • Demonstrated ability in juggling multiple priorities. 
  • Demonstrated ability in working independently and as a member of a team. 
  • Ability to provide exemplary customer service to staff and the public. 
  • Demonstrated ability in taking a project from start to finish in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability in working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. 
  • Excellent oral and written skills. 
  • Able to attend work regularly and report to work in a timely manner.
  • 8.5 hours per day, which includes eight hours of paid work time plus 30 minutes of unpaid lunch
