All services are free of charge and confidential. Operating 365 days each year, Family Shelter Service provides immediate safety for victims of family violence by offering: a 24-hour hotline, DuPage crisis shelter, court advocacy and counseling services – in English and Spanish – for women and children, male victims and abused elderly. In addition, we provide a program specifically focused on the needs of children.

Family Shelter Service, a nonprofit providing help and hope for victims of domestic violence and their children for over 40 years, is seeking to hire a self-directed and creative Marketing & Events Coordinator.

Family Shelter Service is looking for a full-time (40 hours/week+) “out of the box” thinker that can handle multiple projects at a time. The ideal candidate is driven to connect people to a critical mission in our community through virtual and in-person experiences.

The Marketing & Events Coordinator will ensure members of the community (current and prospect clients, supporters and allies) learn who Family Shelter Service is through virtual and in-person communications and experiences. These experiences will raise awareness in the community about the issue of domestic violence and how Family Shelter Service is the local expert here to help anyone and everyone experiencing the trauma of abuse and violence at home.

The Marketing & Events Coordinator will manage the content for the main virtual and in-person communications and experiences across the agency, including but not limited to social media channels, website, print materials, and special events. The position also influences other teams within the agency to create a unified interaction with constituents that delivers a consistent and impactful experience across many touchpoints.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Works with FSS leadership team to establish and refine communication strategies and tone that will both engage current supporters and seek new allies

2. Creates opportunities to reach new clients, supporters and allies virtually and in-person

3. Develops and ensures effective utilization of brand voice and standards throughout the agency

4. Creates and manages a comprehensive agency wide communications plan and calendar

5. Creates content and manages a comprehensive and innovative social media plan

6. Develops and manages content and graphics for all virtual and printed communications

7. Tracks metrics to ensure successful impact and effectiveness of virtual and in-person experiences

8. Leads creation and implementation of unique special events, including annual walk and gala, through mobilizing volunteer event committees to ensure strong ROI and increased community connections that lead to additional revenue.

9. Works with Advancement Team to execute any donor-centered cultivation and stewardship events.

10. Coordinates and assists with messaging of all public speaking opportunities for the Executive Director, Advancement Team, Speakers Bureau, Community Ambassadors and direct service staff as appropriate.

11. Leads the Speakers Bureau, a volunteer group of survivors who speak on behalf of FSS, to provide insight of the survivor experience

12. Serves as Family Shelter Service representative at community events as needed.

13. Other duties as assigned.

Relationships:

1. Supervised by Director of Advancement.

2. Works closely with the Media Relations & Advocacy Coordinator and the Annual Giving Coordinator.

3. Works in partnership with the entire Advancement Team.

4. Establishes and maintains strong relationships with marketing and event vendors, volunteer event committees and the Speakers Bureau members.

Qualifications & Characteristics:

1. Education: Bachelors Degree required.

2. Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience. Experience working within a nonprofit fundraising department preferred.

3. Training: Must be detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time while meeting deadlines. Must demonstrate strong problem solving skills.

4. Technical: Must be familiar with social media platforms, website management platforms and electronic communication platforms, such as Constant Contact. Experience with Adobe Illustrator preferred; some graphic design experience required.

5. Social Skills: Must be a positive, ideal team player with the ability to work independently and able to take initiative. Must demonstrate excellent communication, verbal and written skills.

6. Leadership: Must demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and good judgment.

Special Conditions:

1. Position requires evening and weekend hours for events and other meetings as needed.

2. Must have privately owned vehicle, valid drivers license and liability insurance. Travel between locations and partnering sites required.

3. Must be able to operate general office equipment.

4. Must be able to stand/walk for periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
