The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is the oldest and largest shelter in Wisconsin. It was founded in 1879 and operates shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Door, and Brown Counties, as well as a Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. The organization offers adoption services, educational programming, and veterinary resources for animals from low-income households, retail stores, volunteer programs and dog training classes. The Milwaukee shelter also houses the states busiest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. WHS is an independent nonprofit and receives no general government funding and is not part of any national umbrella group.

The Wisconsin Humane Society is looking for a part-time Marketing Coordinator to join the outstanding team at our Door County Campus! The Marketing Coordinator will be a core member of the PR Department and will be responsible for generating awareness and community engagement in Sturgeon Bay and the surrounding service areas.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate media appearances to maintain a high level of confidence in the programs, services and knowledge that WHS provides for people and animals.
  • Plan the media schedule, write scripts and select animals for each segment
  • Support the Communications/PR department on Door County’s marketing materials including but not limited to print advertisements, Adoption Handbook, annual calendar, adoption promotions, flyers and web pages
  • Compile, write, design and create messaging for social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and website
  • Photograph animals, volunteers, staff and events to support communications and marketing
  • Update web pages on website as needed
  • Participate in development of strategy for continuous improvement of marketing and communications work
  • Other duties as assigned

The Marketing Coordinator will be a positive, professional, and team -oriented individual with the following experience and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree, either completed or in progress
  • Experience in marketing, public relations or communication strongly preferred
  • Experience in non-profit marketing preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Emotionally capable of handling high-pressure situations in a professional manner in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with photo and website editing software preferred
  • Basic math skills
  • Professional appearance and presentation
  • Capable of accepting and completing work assignments with minimal supervision in a highly motivated manner
  • Commitment to treat animals with respect and kindness
