This position will serve as the Practice Director for the Marketing practice area of the UW E-Business Consortium (uwebc.wisc.edu), a multidisciplinary unit that has involvement from leading companies from a variety of industries. This position will be responsible for planning and executing effective strategies for the collaborative learning, applied research, advisory services and industry outreach offerings within the Consortium's Marketing practice area. This position will report to the Managing Practice Director of the Consortium.

Principal duties include:

  1. Independently conceptualize, plan, lead and facilitate the Consortium's collaborative learning events (including Peer Groups, Special Interest Groups and Executive Retreats) and related research and knowledge-sharing activities to help digital marketing and e-commerce professionals, marketing managers and executives discover leading and emerging practices and address strategic and operational issues/challenges. This will include responsibility for:
    (a) definition of topics addressing Consortium member needs and interests,
    (b) development of meeting content (including by invited subject matter experts and executives),
    (c) development of discussion and analysis frameworks and facilitation materials by researching and compiling relevant information from multiple sources (including member companies),
    (d) presentation of research findings and facilitation of group discussion, and
    (e) targeted communications, complementing regular promotional campaigns, to encourage member engagement and participation. (50%)
  2. Provide advisory services targeted at marketing executives and senior managers in Consortium member companies. This will include responsibility for:
    (a) staying abreast with emerging digital marketing and e-commerce trends and strategies
    (b) initiating, nurturing and maintaining relationships with marketing and e-commerce leaders at Consortium member companies so as to understand their interests, challenges and key initiatives, as well as to share learnings from independent research and conversations with other leaders,
    (c) providing them advisory assistance (including through facilitation of member-to-member advising). (15%)
  3. Help develop, perform and manage applied research and industry outreach projects. This will include responsibility for the development of project proposals and the design of project frameworks (including methodology, protocols, deliverables and timelines). The person will have lead responsibility for project management and execution including information gathering and analysis, coordination of all project team members, and completion of project deliverables. (10%)
  4. Communicate the findings from the collaborative learning and research activities by developing best practice reports, opinion papers, guidelines, decision-tools, assessment aids, etc., and through oral presentations. Task responsibilities will include designing of the structure of these educational materials, as well as authoring the contents (either independently or in collaboration with industry members and Consortium support staff). (10%)
  5. Organize and manage the Marketing track of the Consortium's annual conference, including defining the presentation topics, recruitment of speakers, and facilitation of the conference track. (10%)
  6. Assist with other industry outreach initiatives of the Consortium. (5%)
  • Minimum of 5 years of digital marketing and/or e-commerce work experience required, preferably including functional leadership experience. 
  • Must have sound understanding of digital marketing and e-commerce strategies, technologies, applications and trends, and the propensity to learn and maintain fluency with state-of-the-practice. 
  • Must be capable of independently planning and conducting learning events and peer group meetings for marketing professionals and executives, providing digital marketing related advisory and project services, supervision of project student assistants, and authoring of reports. 
  • Must have strong analytic, research, and consulting skills. Strong group facilitation, presentation and public speaking skills are essential. 
  • Must have ability to cultivate, maintain and leverage relationships with executives and managers in industry. 
  • Required to have strong business writing, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, attention to detail, and time management skills and the ability to successfully coordinate multiple, concurrent responsibilities are essential. 
  • Must demonstrate initiative and an ability to work independently as well as a member of a team. 
  • Experience involving management consulting, project leadership and coordination, group facilitation, and teaching is preferred.

Full-time Salary Rate: Minimum $80,000 annual (12 months), depending on qualifications.

Term: This is a renewable appointment.
