The Marketing Strategist will support Bethesda’s mission to raise funds and awareness for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by leading the conception, development and execution of marketing programs and campaigns, writing and overseeing the development of compelling content, and recommending new strategies and programs to increase effectiveness of Bethesda’s messaging and ability to reach new and existing donors, volunteers and the general public.

What you'll be doing:

  • Marketing Project Management 
  • Develops integrated marketing project plans to achieve marketing and communications objectives for Bethesda and its key audiences, to include consideration of traditional and digital advertising and promotion tactics, as well as public relations, social media and internal communications. The Marketing Strategist will collaborate with subject matter experts on the Bethesda Marketing Team in order to develop the strongest plan recommendation 
  • Leads project teams and manages the successful execution of marketing projects. Works with subject matter experts to set task timelines and ensure delivery of requested project work. Creates a shared focus within the team on the importance of achieving results 
  • Completes all assigned projects on time and on budget 
  • Creative Concepting and Copywriting 
  • Prepares and presents creative briefs to begin the creative process with project teams. 
  • Develops creative concepts to engage target audiences while delivering upon the objectives of the marketing program/campaign 
  • Writes compelling copy for online and offline communication elements of assigned projects 
  • Marketing Project Planning 
  • Identifies new opportunities to create impactful marketing and communications programs that will support the mission and financial objectives for the organization. Makes recommendations to proactively build out the marketing calendar 
  • Reviews marketing projects and results after completion, identifies learnings, and applies them to future projects 
  • Conducts research on marketing and communications efforts by other organizations in the industry, utilizes this knowledge to make recommendations to further improve our marketing plans and strategies

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing or related field. 
  • Five years of experience in marketing, communications or advertising, including experience coordinating projects and project teams. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in creative development, creative writing, editing and proofreading skills. 
  • Experience marketing for non-profits, or health and human services is preferred 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to sit for 8 hours a day and make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and the wrists 
  • Able to keyboard and use a computer a minimum of 6 hours/day 
  • Able to sit for prolonged periods of time May require frequent bending, kneeling and/or stooping

  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to create a positive project team dynamic. 
  • Ability to suggest alternate solutions and provide recommendations to key internal partners, colleagues and cross-functional teams. 
  • Ability to coordinate and assist with video and photography shoots and with web and social media content development.
