American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery

The purpose of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) is to promote excellence in patient care by advancing biomedical application of lasers and other related technologies world wide. A primary goal of the Society is to promote the highest ethical and professional standards in the practice of laser medicine and surgery. The Society serves its purpose and pursues this goal by promoting an active exchange of information, encouraging research in both clinical and non-clinical fields and monitoring the use of lasers in the health professions. The Society is an amalgamation of engineers, scientists, technologists, representatives of industry, physicians and other health care professionals. In order to promote patient welfare, the Society establishes this Code of Ethics as a standard of conduct to which each member is expected to adhere. Membership in the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery implies that both physician as well as non-physician members maintain the highest ethical standards and adhere to these tenets, standards, and principles, the ultimate goal of which is to benefit patient safety and care. Failure to uphold these tenets may subject the member to dismissal from the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.

The Membership Manager is responsible for recruitment and retention activities, including the annual member-get-a-member campaign. The Membership Manager works closely with the Vice President and Membership Committee to organize activities to recruit and retain members. The Membership Manager provides recommendations on new recruitment and retention initiatives with the Marketing and Communications Manager to collaborate in the development of recruitment and retention plans. The Membership Manager coordinates the ASLMS Research Grant program.

Project Leadership

  • Supervises the Membership Specialist.
  • Manages membership application submission and review process in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Bylaws and Board Policies.
  • Coordinates membership recruitment/retention activities, including scheduling quarterly teleconferences with the Membership Committee to provide an update on activities and to discuss additional initiatives.
  • Maintains database and frequent communication with training programs to recruit new members.
  • Prepares and schedules periodic communications with members in training to increase engagement and to encourage conversion to full membership.
  • Manages the Member-Get-A-Member program, including providing frequent acknowledgment of referrals and recruiting high profile members to serve as “Membership Ambassadors” for the organization.
  • Coordinates the mailing of promotional material to cooperating/collaborating organizations.
  • Updates and disseminates promotional slides to ASLMS members and international organizations.
  • Maintains up to date membership recruitment and retention statistics.
  • Identifies members to highlight in eNews and on website on a monthly basis for their engagement in growing the membership.
  • Contacts lapsed members to improve retention.
  • Updates membership orientation and on boards new members.
  • Develops and disseminates frequent communications to new members (e.g. welcome letter, membership orientation, accessing LSM online, 6-month membership satisfaction survey, etc.)
  • Works closely with Industry Advisory Council companies to share benefits of membership and encourage them to promote membership to their customers.
  • Recruits and retains Industry Advisory Council members.
  • Promotion to specialty organizations to share value for members.
  • Assists in creating and updating membership and marketing materials, including letters, flyers, membership orientation, surveys, etc.
  • Develops a plan to promote membership at the Annual Conference.
  • Travels to the annual conference and regional education sessions as required.
  • Stays current on best practices to recruit and retain members.
  • Reviews annual membership survey results to improve membership satisfaction.
  • Coordinates research grant submission and approval process with the ASLMS Research Committee.

Financial Management

  • Proposes budgetary expenditures for recruitment and retention activities.
  • Organizes annual membership dues mailings with membership retention inserts.
  • Researches and develops proposal for annual dues rates.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Recruitment and retention experience perferred
  • Sales experience preferred
  • Must be goal driven
  • Bachelor Degree preferred
