Job Summary:

The Category Development Manager (CDM) position will drive the category vision and strategy and ensure alignment between the US Marketing and Global Business Unit teams for the Post-it® notes and flags portfolio. The key objectives are to accelerate Sales and OI across US channels and accounts. It will require close partnership with the Global Business Unit leader, the US Shopper Marketing and Sales organization, the CBG key account teams and the other functional teams within the Stationery & Office Sales Division.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government, or military environments to a 3M career.

Key Role Responsibilities:

Category Strategy:

  • Set category strategy with specific plans to grow the Post-it® Brand notes and flags portfolios in key accounts and selected channels - driving the category vision, tactics, and innovation opportunities in alignment with the Global BU and US Shopper marketing organizations. 
  • Develop category strategy with key customers to drive profitable category growth and deliver SOSD vision. 
  • Manage price corridor, portfolio, product, and promotions across defined channels and accounts within established guidelines. 
  • Drive the categories and sub-categories from retailer perspective, clearly understanding their goals and defining programs that are accretive to their growth and profitability, measured by high acceptance rate of programs offered. 
  • Ensure alignment of US Marketing plans (new products, seasonal promotions, advertising) to customer calendars on a rolling 12 month planning cycle. 
  • Full ownership of market knowledge (share, competition, growth drivers) with support from analytics. 
  • Orchestrate new product launch commercialization (from the Global BU) to the US Shopper marketing and sales teams

Category Expertise:

  • Influence internal stakeholders from the US Shopper marketing team and Global Business Unit, in developing Marketing Plans, Shopper Marketing tactics and Customer engagement strategies. 
  • Primary point of contact for the US Shopper Marketing as the category expert. 
  • Recognized as the category expert by key customers. 
  • Oversee development of line review plans for the portfolio, and participate in all top account line reviews. 
  • Lead competitive response team, including preparing client-ready presentations and response options (promotions, value-adds, etc.) 
  • Collect best category practices to inspire new opportunities for the US Shopper Marketing team.

Category Performance Management:

  • Monitor impact of category specific cross-account activities and programs (e.g., cannibalization), develop recommendations and proactively manage channel harmonization 
  • Provide feedback to Global BU and Product Marketing, Shopper Marketing, and Sales to ensure key lessons are incorporated into future strategies and plans. 
  • Work with sales teams to create and implement an operations plan calendar for the category and US (line reviews, launches, key season opportunities, additional distribution focus areas, etc.) 
  • Accountable for task teams with Marketing Coordinator leadership 
  • Responsible for business unit MRE and demand plan forecasting within the IBP process.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution 
  • Minimum of ten (10) combined years of experience working in sales and/or marketing roles in a private, public, government, or military environment 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of supervisor experience in a private, public, government, or military environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPG industry expertise 
  • Experience in Key Account management 
  • Experience leading Sales and Marketing teams 
  • Strong project management, communication and team facilitation skills 
  • Minimum of three (3) combined years of experience in Consumer Product sales and/or marketing roles in a private, public, government, or military environment 
  • Strong Brand Strategy skills
