Created by and for Wisconsin’s newspapers, the Wisconsin Newspaper Association exists to strengthen the newspaper industry, enhance public understanding of the role of newspapers, and protect basic freedoms of press, speech and the free flow of information.

WNA is the single point-of-contact for newspapers in Wisconsin. In addition to serving our member newspapers, WNA serves advertisers and communications professionals through its advertising placement program and news tracking service.

Supporting WNA goals is the WNA Foundation, a not-for-profit organization created in 1980 to improve the quality and future of Wisconsin’s newspapers and the communities they serve. The foundation solicits, manages and disburses funds and other resources for the benefit of Wisconsin’s newspaper industry and, ultimately, the citizens of our state.

The Wisconsin Newspaper Association is seeking a Program Assistant to support WNA staff with project duties, including the scheduling and organizing of meetings and events, administration of annual newspaper contest and coordination of office management.

Duties shall include:
  • Administration of the WNA's annual newspaper contest, which received approximately 3,000 entries each year. This includes making updates to the contest website, reviewing entries, assisting members and coordinating awards.
  • Assist WNA staff in the planning of meetings and events. The program assistant will assist with development, registration and execution of board meetings, educational workshops, webinars and the annual convention.
  • Manage office administrative tasks, including ordering of office supplies; maintenance of membership database; coordinating of member press credentials; and assisting with member correspondence.
  • Assist with communications and engagement efforts and special projects as needed.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in a related field
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe products, especially Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Adobe Acrobat Pro

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the newspaper industry
  • Experience using WordPress
  • Experience using Presspoint or another CRM database
  • Knowledge of AP Style Event experience
