JOB SUMMARY:

A Chicago-based hospitality company is looking for a Public Relations Manager (PR Manager) to increase awareness and continue to tell the company’s story through effective communication and media-relations programs. This position is responsible for the creation, organization and execution of internal and external public relations strategies for multiple brands, with the goal of acquiring more advanced recognition in the market, promoting products and establishing leadership throughout the hospitality industry.

Manages both proactive and reactive media relations in support of the company’s business and initiatives, as well as field and store operations and issues. Helps to ensure positive media coverage for the brands through strategic PR planning and tactics, and supports programs aimed at enhancing the company’s reputation through earned media coverage. Also develops and executes multi-channel (print, broadcast, digital, social, etc.) media strategies that advance the company’s business and image externally.

Assists in handling issues; management and crisis communications, investigates and researches information needed to respond to media inquiries and other materials. Researches interview topics, develops press releases, messaging documents and acts as a company spokesperson. Manages certain day-to-day media relations responsibilities that may include media monitoring and other internal PR vehicles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop media-relations strategies, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast, and online media, pitching creative hooks to top-tier national journalists 
  • Coordinate all public-relations activities, including raising awareness for the brand through seasonal promotions and events 
  • Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts within business and industry media and social media influencers 
  • Manage media inquiries and interview requests, securing television and radio segments with chefs driving traffic to our establishments 
  • Create content for press releases, byline articles, and presentations 
  • Monitor, analyze, and report PR results on a regular basis 
  • Evaluate opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships, and community relations on an ongoing basis 
  • Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy surrounding them

WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • 2 to 3 years’ experience in public relations 
  • A track record of designing and executing successful public-relations campaigns 
  • Strong relationships with both local and national business and industry media outlets 
  • Experience as a company spokesperson; comfortable and skilled in both broadcast and print media interviews 
  • Experience in the hospitality industry a plus 
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills 
  • Event-planning experience 
  • Strong project-management skills 
  • A BA degree in marketing, advertising, journalism, communications, public relations or a related discipline
