Marklund is a nonprofit organization that serves infants, children, teens and adults with serious and profound developmental disabilities and special healthcare needs. With three residential locations - the Marklund Hyde Center in Geneva, the Marklund Philip Center in Bloomingdale, and the Marklund Wasmond Center in Elgin, it is currently home to nearly 174 clients. It is a Day School offering Multi-Needs and Life Skills programs for children and young adults with multiple medical needs, and those diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. It is a skilled nursing unit for medically fragile children and adults, and a developmental training center for adults who need assistance in managing their disabilities.

Marklund in Geneva is hiring a Public Relations Specialist! Would you like to make a difference in the lives of others and be appreciated for what you do? Join us in making everyday life possible for individuals with profound disabilities and love your job!

Marklund is seeking highly motivated and mission-centered individuals for the position of Public Relations Specialist. This is a full-time position that is based out of the Marklund Hyde Center in Geneva, IL with frequent travel to our Marklund Philip Center in Bloomingdale, IL. Candidates must be able to perform the essential functions of the job and to meet its functional and environmental requirements.

Responsibilities include:

  • News writing and corporate communications - Develop, research, write and edit content for various projects of media relations and internal communications including news/press releases and feature stories, social media posts, newsletters for MDS, MPC/MWC-based events, and the REST Program 
  • Write content for marketing collateral for above-mentioned programs, and other materials as needed. 
  • Create content and develop bi-weekly "Connections" employee newsletter. 
  • Develop monitor loops with Connections content and additional as needed. 
  • Support social media postings for all departments, monitor engagement and help develop strategy. 
  • Create flyers for departments as needed 
  • Support internal communication needs, particularly regarding recruitment and retention. 
  • Post news releases, newsletters, and edit some content on the REST & Marklund websites. 
  • Responsive media relations for Marklund organization including responding to news media inquiries and requests for information, serving as back-up to Director of Marketing and Communications. 
  • Public relations for internal and external communications projects as needed, including taking and uploading photos and videos. 
  • Assist with media relations evaluation and measurement reports for REST and its social media sites. 
  • Assist graphic designer with completing in-house printing projects 
  • Support all projects consistent with strategic communications goals for the organization and planned in coordination with Director of Marketing and Communications.

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum 2-3 years in a Communication or Public Relations role 
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related
