Job Summary:

The Senior Media Relations Specialist will take a lead role in promoting the impact stories of the largest service club organization in the world. This role requires a great writer, communicator and creative thinker with a strong interest in media, storytelling, and research, and a track record of turning great ideas into media successes. The Senior Media Relations Specialist is a nimble multi-tasker with a global sensibility, a passion for telling life-changing stories and a love of traditional and digital media.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop creative story angles, research and write pitches, and create releases for local and national media 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across marketing and programs to create compelling moments for product launches, events, and service stories and milestones 
  • Develop speeches and talking points to assist the organization’s top executives in speaking engagements 
  • Monitor press coverage, track results and communicate issues and opportunities to internal teams 
  • Collaborate with advertising team on PSA placement and tracking 
  • Establish and maintain relationships with traditional media outlets and bloggers 
  • Respond to media requests for information and assist with crisis communications 
  • Shop for and manage agencies for select PR campaigns 
  • Write blogs to guide and empower Lions in their own local PR efforts

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in public relations, journalism or communications from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Prefer at least 5 years of experience in a PR firm, corporate communications team or traditional media 
  • Experience working with media monitoring platforms 
  • Understands SEO, backlinks, keywords, and hashtag strategies 
  • International PR experience a plus
