Job Overview:

The Special Events Intern assists with the "behind the scenes" prep work and execution of Special Events, including Milwaukee Best Bloody and Madison Best Bloody. GLHF is looking for an outgoing, detail-oriented person to fill this role.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow-up contact with participating bars; 
  • Follow-up calls for in-kind donation; 
  • Maintaining computer records in Donor Perfect and excel reports; 
  • Run reports and queries relating to Special Events; 
  • Organize items for Envelope Wall and Bar Participant Awards; 
  • Set-up and assist at the events; 
  • Volunteer Management before and day of event; 
  • Assist with receipts and letters to event attendees, sponsors, and bar participants; 
  • Prepare and send out attendee and bar surveys post-event; 
  • Miscellaneous event tasks.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic office and computer skills. 
  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel; Donor Perfect a plus, but not required. 
  • Familiar with Adobe InDesign and/or Illustrator desired, but not required. 
  • Excellent phone presence. 
  • Ability to cold-call effectively. 
  • Detail-oriented. 
  • Able to take direction well. 
  • Good follow through and follow-up skills.

Minimum Level of Preparation and Training:

  • At least one (1) year of college completed. 
  • Basic office skills. 
  • Responsible and mature. 
  • Recommendation by college professor or other professional highly welcome.

Professional Benefit for the Intern:

Professional experience in the non-profit sector and special event experience. Also, exposure to Board of Directors and other executives and professionals in many different fields.

Working Conditions:

This position pays $7.50 per hour. We are looking for a commitment of 10-15 hours per week, with flexibility around exam time, vacation time, etc. We are looking for a commitment of the Spring 2019 semester, with the possibility of continuing in the position past one semester.

The intern will share office space in the GLHF suite of offices in the Blood Center of Wisconsin building at N. 18th St. and W. Wisconsin Ave. The intern will work during regular GLHF hours, which are 8:30am - 4:30pm from Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends (when executing an event). The intern will work under the supervision of Julie Pahnke, Special Events Coordinator.
