Summary:

As a Sr. Digital Communications Specialist, use your expertise to support planning, development and execution of digital communications strategies and tactics that align with key enterprise/department/program goals. The Sr. Digital Communications Specialist will support capabilities for the internal workforce audience as well as external audiences such as Thrivent members, customers, prospects and the media.

As part of this role, you will apply communication and digital technology best practices and leverage data and analytics to drive recommendations to improve digital communications results. You will be responsible for some level of strategic development, as well as, execution of tactics. As someone with both digital and communication core competencies, you will bring one or more specialties to the team – such as web content principles, search optimization, internal or external social media or metrics. A proactive, always-learning mindset is also critical to stay on top of the latest advancements in the digital landscape and business landscape to support the digital communications strategy.

Position is in Appleton, WI or Minneapolis, MN.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use market and audience information to influence success of programs/initiatives and to continuously improve upon results. Captures audience and partner feedback to align and to optimize effectiveness. Continues to build digital communications intelligence through external and internal data sources. 
  • Uses vertical and horizontal communications and technology expertise/experience to contribute to larger initiatives and projects. May be charged with leading cross- sub-teams and work streams and providing work direction in support of larger initiatives. Demonstrates experience to drive development that aligns with key corporate strategies and initiatives. 
  • Contributes to the development of digital strategies to support organizational goals; responsible for development of actionable tactics. 
  • Continuously seeks ways to use technology to drive effective and impactful results and to help drive corporate strategies. 
  • Develops trusted relationships with key internal/external partners to collaborate and contribute to digital communication strategies that support mission-driven goals. 
  • Plans, builds and/or produces high-quality content for internal or external digital communications channels, with a focus on intranet/workforce portal web content.
  • Participates in the ongoing operations and governance of digital communications channels and capabilities. 
  • Work on digital communications projects with a variety of partners who have their own specific goals/agendas. In this role, there is a need to help others prioritize, seek out the right expertise and ensure the work is aligned with broader objectives. May take some navigation and collaboration at other levels to ensure alignment

Required Job Qualifications:

  • 5 – 7 years communications, digital communications, marketing or related experience 
  • College degree in communications, marketing or related field 
  • Experience in a specialized area of communications or marketing (web content principles, web content writing, web content management, web consulting, search optimization, internal social media, direct marketing, e-marketing, analytics, brand positioning, social networking media, etc.) and/or project/program management. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Demonstrates strong project management and collaboration skills. 
  • Applies a development mindset that uses creativity and digital communications expertise to develop new, more effective and more efficient digital communications approaches.

  • Proven business insights and the ability to build inclusivity work across a large organization with collaboration and networking skills. 
  • Broad skills set and high agility to learn other areas of digital communications to be an effective standout colleague in meeting the various needs of the strategy. 
  • Comfort level with crafting and making decisions following a “rough path” and still achieve results. 
  • Change management skill set to support adoption of new digital capabilities for the workforce. 
  • Ability and willingness to write and edit according to standard methodologies as well as publish.
