The Marketing Communications team is seeking an experienced consumer marketing communications professional with a foundational knowledge of nutrition, health and sustainable food systems and the ability to help translate science and insights into relevant and engaging influencer, media, and consumer content. The role includes close collaboration with research experts and the Global Sustainable Nutrition Research (GSNR) team to meet the strategic business plan. This individual will play an instrumental role in the strategic and integrated development and execution of communication plans, projects and scope of work within a collaborative, matrixed team environment to tell dairy’s story — based on science but driven by emotion and consumer-relevance.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Communications, this role includes close collaboration with research experts and the Global Sustainable Nutrition Research team to meet the strategic business plan. While consumers and thought leaders are the primary audience, content will need to be broad enough to resonate with multi-stakeholder audiences to share stories about dairy’s contributions to health and sustainable food systems and dairy’s commitment to the health of people, cows, the community and the planet.

Responsibilities:

  • As part of the marketing communications team, manage communications planning, integration and execution from research pipeline to storyline, leveraging the research and insights from the Global Sustainable Nutrition Research (GSNR) team to help them communicate against their strategic plan. 
  • Lead key year-long storylines to be shared digitally and with media as well as in meetings and at conferences related to nutrition, health and sustainable foods systems in collaboration with the GSNR team, Newsroom and marketing communications teams.

  • Develop messages, storylines and content to support health and sustainable food systems work streams, integrating with GSNR, and the Marketing Communications teams. 
  • Leverage technical/subject matter expertise and consumer insights from business and functional departments to shape stories and content and ensure accuracy. 
  • Recommend and execute appropriate tactics/channels for execution (social/digital, website, infographics, video, press releases, media relations, media pitches, spokesperson prep, the Amplification Center, the Dairy Hub, etc.). 
  • Ensure State and Regional (SRs) Dairy Councils and other dairy community stakeholders have the information on dairy’s contributions to health and sustainable food systems, especially new research, insights and content in a timely manner. 
  • Serve as member of the Integrated Marketing and Communications Leadership Team, providing strategic counsel, guidance and mentorship to broader team and helping to instill a culture of excellence and accountability. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with national/regional leadership, business unit leads within DMI, and other dairy community communications leads

Basic Qualifications:

Registered dietitian or allied health professional/Bachelor’s degree required in addition to training and expertise in communications (i.e., working in health and wellness communications-related position at agency or food and beverage company). Education or experience in sustainability, agriculture, sustainable food systems or environmental studies/environmental science strongly desired. Minimum of 10 years of experience.
